Next week I have my first chiro appointment. I am excited/scared. I have never been and am kind of scred it may hurt a little. Anyone have any experience with chiro during pregnancy? And I plan to continue until 36 weeks in hopes to keep baby A and B both head down/flip them if they are not. Anyone have success flipping a breech twin through chiropractics? I am seeing a doc that is specially certified in pediatric/maternity chiropractics.

What exactly would a chiro be doing that would flip a baby? A lower back adjustment treats back pain. They aren't qualified to perform external versions, if that's is what you are hoping the chiro will do for you.
  • No it's not an external version of any sorts, just a belief that spinal alignment and such helps the baby prepare for delivery, aka flipping head down. Or so that is how it has been explained to me. I guess I will find out.

  • I started seeing a Webster certified chiropractor around 30 weeks when my Baby A flipped to breech. I saw her 2-3 times per week until I delivered at 38.4 weeks. It's definitely not painful, but can be uncomfortable at times, especially when you first start going because you're so tense. My A never flipped, sadly, but I'm so glad I went and feel it helped me recover quickly from my C section. I was also having severe back pain, so seeing a chiropractor definitely helped with that. I still see her now, even postpartum :)

The philosophy is that sacrum alignment and releasing the tension in the ligaments surrounding the uterus/pelvis will create more room for babies to naturally move head down with the flow of gravity. The doctor does not move the baby at all, it's about creating a hospitable environment for them to get into their natural positions.

  • I saw a chiro through my entire pregnancy but he specifically started doing the Webster technique on me at about 28 weeks.  At that time both babies were breech.  Baby A went from a footling breech to a frank breech to head down thanks to his adjustments and I successfully vaginally delivered two head down babies at 40 weeks.  He also was incredibly helpful after delivery in helping me get back aligned.  I saw him at 48 hrs after delivery and my girls were adjusted for the first time at 8 days old and still get regularly adjusted.

@caden Chiropractors dont just treat lower backs.  I see my chiropractor for general wellness. He has treated me for sinus infections, ear infections, he has treated my babies for constipation, etc.  As for external versions most doctors wont even perform them on twin pregnancies.  Webster technique however is safe and gentle.
