What would you think if a baby girl had her mother's first name, or a derivative of it, as her middle name? I know this is done all the time for boys using their father's name as their middle but would you feel differently with a daughter? Does it somehow come off as egotistical on the part of the mother, or would you do it if you wanted your daughter to have a part of your name and thought it sounded good?
I have no idea why it should be seen any differently for fathers' vs mothers' names, but over the past 100yrs the former seems more common in the US, no?

DD has my FN as her MN. I love my name and like that we share that. It flows nicely and I just love the way it sounds when I yell it across the house
I don't think there is anything inherently narcissistic about it, it is just a nice way to honor someone when names are passed down like that
