7 Weeks GD & Low Progesterone

What a day! I went to my GD class this morning. I have been attending since the day I found out I was pregnant because I knew I was borderline Type 2 before I got pregnant. My fasting number is between 95 - 110 so the doctor wants me to start Glyburide. I knew medication would be in my future but I am disheartened to need it so early (I lost 85 lbs before TTC to avoid it).

Then my doctor called and said my Progesterone was 8.7 so she put me on progesterone pills. The good news is that I had two ultrasounds already and both could see the heartbeat. The bad news is that I googled low progesterone and now I'm scared! Any advice (other than Google is an EVIL, EVIL machine)

I had/have both as well. Low progesterone is totally managable. I am 32 weeks now and everything is great! I was able to stop my progesterone shots after week 20... so there is an upside. The progesterone shots actually made me feel better getting my levels in order. GD ia a bummer. No fun about that but this is the right board for support.

Thank you for the advice. I got more nervous when the high risk doctor told me "It's like the chicken or the egg. We don't know which is causing which. Is it because there is a problem in the pregnancy that it is too low, or is it too low and causing a problem in the pregnancy?" Neither sounded ideal!

I'm happy to see how many people had full healthy babies with low progesterone. If you google it you get some scary results

Thank you for the feedback. I see my OBGYN again on Friday and am going to ask her about suppositories. She just has me on pills now.

I was mostly expecting the GD diagnosis but sad it was so soon. It's only my fasting number. It's between 95 - 110 every morning. All my other numbers are under 115.

Ick. I am already nauseous all day and wake up at night nauseous. I'm not looking forward to increasing that. Oh the things we do for the ones we love!

I see the doctor on Friday. I'm guessing it will be suppositories for me. Any tips on minimizing the side effects other than eating small amounts frequently?

I would absolutely ask about the suppositories! Much less side effects over the pills well other than the nasty discharge!

When you go back again, make sure you ask when they plan on testing your level again. I had low progesterone with this pregnancy and was on the suppositories till about 12 weeks. How far along are you?

Good luck! Try to not worry so much! You are not dangerously low. My RE wanted my numbers above 10 you are close!

Thank you! I am worrying. I made the fatal error of googling it and found a site that under 10 means you most likely didn't have a viable pregnancy. Although, that was like an hour after finding other sites that said to watch it closely. Ugh!

It's good to know the pills are about the same as the suppositories. Also, that 8.7 was before I started the pills so hopefully I will test again and get a higher number with them. I appreciate the advice!

I am 7 weeks and 1 day. My ticker disappeared and I hit save a million times and it hasn't reappeared yet. Blek.

I don't really have any other advise except to not Google!! I've noticed that the majority of information that you find when you Google things is the bad stuff. Most people don't post about the good stuff because it's more normal. I do have GD, but was just diagnosed two weeks ago. So far, I've been able to manage it with diet so I don't have any advice for you.

Thank you. I called my OBGYN and they decided to do a STAT blood check on my progesterone yesterday and see if the pills are working. If the number still isn't high enough they are going to switch me over to suppositories.

I also got a call from my high risk doctor saying they are going to start me on Glyburide for my overnight fasting number.

I am 7 weeks pregnant and have seen my OBGYN 2 times, a high risk doctor 2 times and a nutritionist 3 times and now have my "1st 8 week apt" tomorrow! It's going to be a long 9 months but well worth it

Yes stay off google! And I know its so so hard but try to not worry! My numbers were lower (around 9) and I was ON progesterone. Some just have low numbers. I hope your next level came back good and your feeling better about it!!

And remember google.. is seriously not your friend. Don't even go to the home screen for them haha

Doctor just called and my progesterone went from an 8.7 to a 20 with the oral pills. Yay! Now to combat the general desire to vomit every time I take them.

Lesson learned: don't google. Well until next time.

You might ask for some prescription strength folic acid. For some reason this really helped me my first trimester with sickness being on progestrone.

YAY! This is great news, I am so glad your numbers went up!!

And stay off google for the rest of your pregnancy lol seriously! Just wait for your doctor
