I don't feel like they're listening

I grew up in a small town where the local clinic knew everybody by name and could remember the majority of a persons chart... and my dad was the provider in this clinic... so tell me if my expectations are totally off here.
When I call my pedi's office, I talk to her nurse. When I describe some of his symptoms, she doesn't really ask me any more questions and bases her thoughts solely on what I say (I know there could often times be somehing I'm missing or forgetting to tell her). For example, I just called and asked her about J's strange sleep routine of giving me 4 hours to begin with and then up every hour after that. I asked if it had anything to do with his shots. She automatically said yes, it's because of his shots. Then I asked if he could have reflux because he has a lot of "wet burps," spits up more often, and arches his back. She said no because if it was reflux I wouldn't get the 4 hour stretch. She said he could also be going through a growth spurt if he wants to eat that often. I explained that he doesn't want to eat everytime he gets up. She then suggested making sure he was comfortable and then letting him cry it out. I wasn't really getting the answers or help I needed by this point so I just said okay and hung up.
This whole convo was about 5 minutes and I was really getting the impression that she was writing me off. I know I'm probably just getting flustered when I talk with them but I also feel like they should be doing something to make mefeel a little more at ease. Am I being dumb here?

  • I usually call the nurse line with quick questions or for clarification for instructions I was given. I make an appt with the pedi if I really think there is an issue. Usually I do have to go through the nurse line to do so, but they make us one generally.

If you think your LO has reflux, make an appt. the nurse isn't going to diagnose over the phone. My little guy has reflux, and he did give me some long stretches before meds, but he's much better now.

  • I felt that way at my old ped office. I switched to a new doc who is much more responsive.

This. Or, you can call and ask to speak with the Pedi directly. Or make an appointment.
  • You called to find out why your newborn wakes up every hour? Lol

He is twisting and turning and whimpering like he's in pain. Yes I called to ask why. Thanks for laughing at a worried FTM. Makes me feel super confident about the job I'm doing.

They told you to let LO CIO?
They did. Which is another reason I was a little uneasy about this call.
