What baby items have been most useful to you so far?

I saw this posted on another BMB a while back and thought it was helpful.  A few days/weeks in (also, any BTDT mamas), what items have been most useful for you and baby?  Any that you thought you'd use, but haven't?

Re: What baby items have been most useful to you so far?

  • Most useful = miracle blanket. Our little guy is STRONG and flails out of his swaddleme easily.

Haven't used his PnP bassinet as much, turns out he doesn't enjoy being flat on his back so we have him inclined in a snuggle nest for now.

  • Here's what we have loved:

    - MamaRoo - she can sit in it for a while and be very content.  The ocean noise also calms her immediately.

    - These footed pajamas... so easy for MOTN changes and keeps her warm.  Also very soft!  We have two pair and will be getting more.

    - Rock N Play - we've all been singing its praises and I'll echo it here.  She sleeps so well in it, especially when I warm it up with a heating pad right before she gets in.

    - These flat fold cloth diapers that I use as burp cloths, changing pad table covers, to stop leaky boobs, etc.

    - Not really a baby item, but lots of bottles of water!  I have been through so many.  I get so thirsty while breastfeeding and need something I can squeeze in a crevice to be within reach while on the couch, bed, glider, etc.

  • My Boppy pillow and my ring sling carrier. The ring sling makes taking her out so easy. She loves being in it and doesn't fuss at all when I take her shopping.

Two things I forgot!  Yes, both the Boppy and my ring sling have been life savers.  She instantly falls asleep when I wear her.

Which ring sling do you have?

Swaddleme - we thought we would use the aden & anais blankets for swaddling but these were so much easier

PNP - thank goodness she sleeps well in it!

Boppy - though it is already getting kinda flat so I wish I had gotten the brestfriend

I second the cloth diapers they are great for burp clothes and so many other uses!

It's a Kangaroo Korner that I got at a local consignment shop.

  • Oh, I thought of another one.  Nursing tanks... I live in them!  The best ones I've found are from A Pea in the Pod.  They are soft and have good enough coverage to wear them out by themselves.

  • Most useful:

Bassinet (We didn't think we'd need one since we have that feature on the PNP.  We lasted two days and then we borrowed one from a family member.)

    Bouncer

    Avent bottles

    Sterilization bags for the microwave

Diaper Genie (Up & Up brand refills are cheaper and work well!)

Changing Table (We're both tall and leaning over the bed or something would be murder on our backs.)

    Least useful:

Boppy (though it's probably b/c we're bottle feeding)

  • Boppy and bouncer!

I use the boppy while breast feeding, and also put him in it when I need to leave the room. I know he can't roll yet but it makes me more comfortable...

His bouncer is a life saver at night. I haven't been able to bring myself to put him in his crib yet, and I can move it from room to room easily

    Gowns! Great for MOTN changes!
    Rock n play
    Swing
    Cloth diapers for burp cloths
Ibabylog app to keep track of feedings and diaper changes

And I will second the bottles of water for mom!

  • Love the Boppy pillow, bouncy seat, long sleeved shirts/onesies with the mitten hands (he scratches his face at night) and the swaddle me.  He hated his bassinet, so we are happy we had set up the crib and he could sleep in there right away - he loves it!

  • The RNPs, boppy pillows, our swing, A&A swaddle blankets, my hands free pumping bra (lifesaver), microwave steam bags...the moby wrap and our sound machine. Okay that was kind of a long list!

  • My boppy pillow and nursing tanks!!!!
The boppy pillow is a lifesaver and is nice to hold my LO and be able to have my hands free. And I have been living in nursing tanks. So easy and convinient I don't even bother wearing a bra anymore!

LOVE: Boppy pillow, nursing tanks because they are so easy and convenient and can wear without a bra, gowns for him that cover his hands so its easy to change his diapers and he can't scratch himself, swing, clothed diapers for burping him, and of course the diaper and wipes.
Waste: his cradle because he don't sleep flat. Body suits for him because they make diaper changes so much harder.

My baby jogger city select with the Britax baby car seats and adapters. Makes my fantastic stroller even more versitile.
Also, my K'tan, a million Aden and anais swaddles, and my beloved petunia pickle bottom bag.
Not to mention the 20 or so burp cloths my daughters spit up on daily!
Edit to add the Mybaby white noise machine/maker thingy. This is actually my favorite thing ever! Instantly chills my little ones out. It's like a baby snooze button!
  • People have already posted some of my favorite things but I want to add my Moby wrap LO and I just had a successful first trip out of the house. She slep the whole time all snuggled up to mommy and mommy didn't have to worry about a car seat or stroller.
  • The rnp is awesome. I wish I had one of these with my oldest! I also have a six cube organizer that I use for baby stuff in the living room that is so convenient. I absolutely could not live without my brita though.
  • My boppy, ring sling, and soft blankets.

    I love my rainbow baby!

  • My pump! Our lil angel is still in NICU doing aweaome almost ready to go home. She is eating like a champ as she ought to being she is 11.5lbs. I had built up a nice supply in 5 days and feeling proud yep she put me to shame by sucking down her stash. Iam now attached to my pump it's become my best friend.

I have used the Itzbeen Pocket Timer a lot. It's helped me anticipate my baby's needs.

I also am glad I had a stash of mesh undies. I spent some time in the hospital post birth and was glad I had throw away undies.

Aden and Anais muslin blankets. Our baby does not like sleep sacks/miracle blankets so far, but will tolerate a swaddle in a muslin blanket. I also use them for lots of other things too- covering up the stroller/car seat when out and about. I find them especially great for summer and am buying more.

Hooded bath towels. I didn't buy any but was gifted quite a few. I actually like having the hooded part so I can easily dry off baby's head.

My sling. I can get so much done with it!

    Hasn't gotten much use:

snuza- I've learned that newborns breath irregularly and I'm afraid I will psyche myself out if I use this device.

my brest friend- I was gifted a body pillow that also serves as a breast feeding pillow. I got used to using it as a body pillow and out of habit it's what I reach for now that I am breast feeding.
I do think I will use MBF when LO gets a bit bigger.

rock n play- I use this occasionally. I thought I would use it all the time. I even thought that's were LO would sleep. However, now that LO is here, I much prefer the crib to the RnP.

  • Swaddlers and our Aden and Anais swaddle blankets.  I have no clue what I would do without those!  If all I had were those, my boobs, and diapers we'd be just fine.

Our FisherPrice Zen swing has been great, too, but we got it for free.  I'm not sure I would find the same value in it had I paid full price for it.
