What?s the most (surprisingly!) useful thing in your diaper bag?

What are the most useful things you carry along with you in your diaper bag (we're not talking an extra diaper or wipes)? Share specific products you keep on hand when out and about with your little one that a new mom wouldn't know to put on her list!

Thanks -

Bump Liz

  • Little bags to wrap diapers (stinky ones) up in and throw away. Hand sanitizer. A thermometer. Gas drops. Bulb syringe for baby's nose. An extra outfit /onesie & socks. My camera. My bag is full!

Trash bags as well.  I hadn't thought about hand sanitizer, but that is a great idea.

  • DoggIe wee wee pads to lay on changing tables in rest rooms. Better than the pad that comes with diaper bag because it's bigger and can just be rolled up and thrown away!

That's a great idea!  Way cheaper than the "disposable changing pads" you can buy!

  • One extra onesie/jumper and a small wash/face cloth/hand sanitizer.  My diaper bag is a backpack, so i try to keep it simple and light weight (+hands free) when i am out with my LO.  And another couple sets of clothes/socks/burp cloth/diapers/etc etc are in the trunk...stored in an extra large ziplock bag for emergency purposes.

  • Hand Sanitizer. Can't use it enough!

My diaper bag came with a changing pad, and that has come in SO handy.

  • Definitely the bags. I use one of these dispensers to clip on to my bag from the pet store. The ones they make for the baby stores fall apart. The bags are great for dirty diapers or dirty clothes that might need to be wrapped up. When they get a little older, I like having the disposable stick down placemats for restaurants.

  • My carmex. This time of year, coupled with nursing, my lips get super dry. I can't function with chapped lips and although I always seem to lose it in my purse, I can always find my diaper bag lip stuff! Also useful: the little plastic bags for dirty diapers/clothes, hand sanitizer and travel sized aveeno lotion.

  • Kitchen scissors, seriously! I've been carrying them since DS was 9 months old to cut his food when we eat out. I can do it in half the time and restaurants always give me a butter knife to cut with. I've even had family/friends that eat out with us ask to use them for their kids meals.

2nd best item are the crayons that restaurants hand out. I put them in a ziplock bag and pull them out during doctor apps for DS to color on the paper they roll out on the table ... Keeps him distracted so I can talk to the doctor.

ok we'll obviously we eat out a lot, lol.

  • You can use tissue paper for a changing pad also.
  • I like WetOnes hand wipes they are great if you have to change a dirty diaper and there is no sink in sight, especially good if you get poop on your hands since they disinfect.

  • It isnt IN my diaper bag but I keep my keys on a carbinger hook or whatever those things are called along with a paci keeper. When out and about I clip the hook to either my belt loop or to the handle of thediaper bag so they dont fall to the bottom and there is no searching for them while trying to hold tbe baby.

It's not something you'll use everyday, but definitely keep an extra shirt for yourself in there. I learned this one the hard way - we were out for the day and my daughter had a blowout while I was holding her and wearing a white shirt. I will never again leave the house without an extra ;)
