Best wash / lotion for dry skin?

LO has dry skin... until a few days ago, his torso felt a little sandpaper-y (I think it was heat rash, but it's clearing up) - but now it's just really dry (his arms and legs, too). We've been using babyganics wash and lotion, and Burt's Bees lotion (we prefer natural / organic stuff for LO) - but neither seems to be clearing up the dry skin too well. Can anyone recommend products they've used / liked? I plan to ask at the pedi office this weekend as well. Thanks!

Re: Best wash / lotion for dry skin?

  • My LO had very dry skin on his face and feet along with bad cradle cap. We started using the Mustela products and I won't use anything else on him! We have the newborn shampoo and body wash along with the face cream and his skin is now hydrated and so soft! Plus no more cradle cap! I do still use J&J bedtime lotion on him before bed also.

  • Shea Moisture - Baby Head to Toe Ointment. It's Organic and has a Wonderfully Soft Calming Scent. I love the entire chamomile and argon
oil line (yellow bottles). I use the body wash and healing lotion most of the time but the ointment is great for dry spots and even diaper rash. Sells at Target and Walgreens. Avoid Amazon as its overpriced on there.

  • One of my boys started to get that sandpaper-y feeling skin and he broke out in what looked like a heat rash. Well turns out it was an eczema flare up, his first one. I started using the BabyGanics Eczema cream (not the daily lotion or protective ointment) twice a day and his skin, while still not a smooth as his brother's is no longer dry. I believe he will have rough skin like I do (I have KP) so as long as it's nice and moisturized I'll just keep using what works.

PS. Slather heavily your LO up at night before putting on their sleeper outfit and that's what realllllly helps for us. Kind of like putting lotion on cracked heels and sleeping with socks. Same idea.

  • Aquafore...I think that's how you spell it. Its pretty greasy and I tense but makes baby skin like silk! Totally worth it!
  • It's probably eczema. DD feels like a little armadillo. Ped gave my a cetaphil restoraderm kit, but I'm using the body wash and Shea Moisture eczema therapy as moisturizer.
  • Thanks all. Maybe it is excema. We have a pedi appointment on Saturday morning so I'll be sure to point it out and ask them. In the meantime, thanks for all the recommendations!

  • My little girl has eczema on her face and I've been using coconut oil on her cheeks with every diaper change to keep it moisturized. I even used a little breast milk on it last night. The Pedi suggested cortisone ointment, but with her putting her hands all over her face and in her mouth, I felt safer with the coconut oil. It is healing, slowly, but you can see the change day to day.
