First IUI - a little nervous

I posted an intro awhile back but have been so busy I haven't had a chance to get on lately but we are moving forward with our first IUI cycle. My doctor has me on femara+menopur+ovidrel and I have an U/S scheduled tomorrow to check my follicles. I'm hoping I responded well to the meds but I am still nervous about the whole thing. I'm sure I'm building it up to be worse than it really is - can anyone give me their experience with the actual IUI? Thanks!

Re: First IUI - a little nervous

  • Good luck!  I don't have any experience but I am on track for my first IUI next cycle if I don't get pregnant this cycle so I'm right there with you.  Hopefully this is it for both of us!

  • Hi,

This is my first post, and I am currently in the middle of my first IUI cycle. I was on clomid, gonal-f,ovidrel, estrace and progesterone (will start taking on Thursday). I will have my insemination done tomorrow around 10 am. I'm nervous and excited. I cant wait to hear that I'm finally pregnant (keeping my hopes high). Good luck with everything.

    HI Ladies,
I had my first IUI two weeks ago. The actual procedure took less than half an hour. I had blood work done first, and then the IUI. It doesn't "hurt", just mostly uncomfortable and I felt a lot of pressure while he was inserting the catheter. I would compare it to an annual exam in terms of pain/discomfort.  Once they inserted the sperm I had to lay still, on my back,  for 5-10 minutes. I've heard that some women experience bleeding/spotting for a little while after the procedure, but I did not. I was really nervous about it before I had it done, but it went totally fine. Sadly for us, ours didn't take so we're onto IUI #2 this month, and if that doesn't work we're going to move on to IVF. Good luck to you ladies! I hope to be reading about your BFPs soon!
  • I recently did my second IUI.  It wasn't really too uncomfortable, the first one I think was a little bit uncomfortable though.  Like was said, mostly feels similar to getting a pap done.  I had minimal spotting with the first and none with this one.  Maybe wear a panty liner, as it can be a little wet feeling after, plus as a just in case of spotting.  I also had to lay still in the office for 10-15 min.  The actual procedure was done fairly quickly.  Best of luck!

  • Thanks for sharing and best of luck to you! I had an u/s this morning and I have 3 mature follicles measuring 19, 20.1 and 20.3 mm and my lining measured at 11mm. I'm waiting to get official instructions but it looks like I will be triggering tonight for an IUI Friday morning.

  • Hi! I also had my first IUI last week. I'm 9 dpiui now. It was really easy. My RE did a quick ultrasound to check my follicles and make sure they had not ovulated yet, and then after everything looked fine, she inserted the speculum (like a pap smear). That was the most uncomfortable part for me. I didn't feel the catheter. Like other posters said, I had to also lay on my back for 5 minutes afterwards. No discomfort afterwards, just a little teeny cramping.
Wishing you lots of luck! Don't be nervous.
