EPing Help!

Hi
I am currently EBFing but I have to turn into more of an EPer because I'm going back to work. Is there a way to pump less than every 3 hours and still keep my supply? LO typically eats 5 oz every 3hrs except for one long stretch at night.

Thanks for your help!

Re: EPing Help!

  • I will occasionally stretch my pumping to every 4 hours, but I'm still sure to get 7 pumps in 24 hours.  I don't go longer than that at night because I'm afraid to lose my supply, too. My LC told me to not go longer than 5 hours or my supply will start to suffer.  My LO is 9 wks. How old is yours?

  • thanks for your input my LO is 8 weeks right now I typically go 6-7 hours at night without BFing but I'm worried if I did that all day my supply would tank

  • I also pump every 4-5 hours at night because I worry about supply
  • I am an EP'er and I usually go from 12 hours during the night without pumping. I havent noticed an issue with my supply yet and I have been doing it for over a week now. If anything, I get more in the morning because its all built up, I can usually get 2 full 5 oz bottles, plus some extra

I am an EPer and pump 3 days a day and get 30oz total. If you want to keep nursing then is pump at the same times he normally eats but if you want to switch then you. An gradually drop pumps. If you see your supply dip then add pumps back in.

This is exactly what I do as well. If my supply starts going down I just add another pump in.

  • Before I went back to work I got down to every 4 hours and then just once in the middle of the night when hed get up to eat.  I am doing all pumping now though.  Now that Im back to work I go more every 3-3.5hour just due to scheduling..  When weve gone places Ive gone 5-6 hours and it was fine just very uncomfortable..hard boobs to deal with LOL.  I want to eventually cut out the night pumping but Ill do that when he doesnt wake up once to eat.
  • I wonder how many days of decreased pumping before the supply would be affected...

  • I'm EPing and just went from 7 pumps a day to 5 and now get slightly more than before, though it now takes a little longer to empty my breasts during each pump. I pump around 4am before LO wakes up, again around 9, around noon, then a break until Husband comes home and I pump again around 6pm and then right before bed around 11 pm. I average about 33 oz a day.

My goal is to cut it down to 4 a day and take out the noon pumping. It would be great to cut out the 4 am, but that's when I get the most milk.

DId you start out with more pumpings and gradually decrease?  Or have you always done only a few a day?

I started pumping every 3-4 hours to build my supply. I did that for 8 weeks then gradually dropped pumps.
