Do you get daily updates at pickup from either the director or teachers regarding your child? The director is in the lobby to meet with all parents who come in every day. For the first week it was nice, and now its just annoying.
They tell me good and some struggling times for DS. Its not off the scale behavior though, its normal runofthemill 4yo stuff. Heck, I gave them an intro letter to help them understand DS more, and what "tactics" we found help us...they aren't telling us anything we don't know already, nor have we not informed them of ahead of time.
IDK if I'm hormonal and just easily irritated some days, like I just want a place for DS to learn, while I could focus on my needs too. OR if its because I'm confident in DS and also trusting of the school I chose, but can't I just to say...
"Thank you. Honestly, we trust your judgement, so unless its really important ie. Injury, etc. Its not necessary for me to know every hiccup, ya know? I trust you will handle it properly, and tell me at the parent/teacher conferences updates on his educational area, if need be."
Now if, of course I have any questions or concerns I will ask, but I also feel unless I ask specifically about something, its not necessary to know.
Re: Question re: Daily Updates
We've been shopping daycares lately, and many view daily updates as a selling point. I think there are a lot of helicopter parents out there who want to know what Junior ate and what he learned that day.
That would be a bit annoying if it's just normal stuff. I have places to be!
I can't get the ticker to work, but I have two sons:
Baby RJ, born 1/25/2014
Formerly Twilightmv
I have a Daughter born 2/26/2013. She is pretty much amazing!
As a former daycare teacher--I did the toddler room, I HATED the daily sheet we had to fill out. It was the bane of my existence---especially since the school was so picky about it. It was copied in the AM and given to us--with the 8 daily activities/focuses. (what book was read, art activity, center time, etc.) We also had to write down when they went to the bathroom (which I completely got). We also had to write down what the parents packed for lunch and how much they ate it. (That was during lunch time when there were 2 teachers for 20 toddlers---and making sure we wrote down what they ate before they threw their food out; and cleaning up spills, keeping kids that had food allergies separate, etc)
Under the daily activities we had to check if they participated or not. If they didn't participate we had to write when they did instead. (Instead of finger painting, they played with the water table, etc). We also had to write 3 sentences about their day.
All of this was going on while I was supposed to teach and run a 2.5 year old class with an aide. But the teacher was suppose to fill out the majority of the sheets and they were checked right after nap by the director. I just didn't have enough hands to fill out those sheets and make sure they didn't dump all the toys out. Or bite. Etc.
