C-sections

BTDT C-Section Moms

Hi ladies! I have my first c-section planned for next Monday, July 29th due to some medical reasons. I was just wondering if there are any must haves I should have on hand for recovery/when I get home. I apologize if this is a duplicate, I looked back a few pages and didn't see anything. TIA!

  • Milk of Magnesia or Colace as the pain meds they will give you will block you up. Keep a pillow in the bathroom, it really helps with going to the bathroon. Maxi pads to stick in your underwear over your incision. I would definitely encourage you to have someone to help stay at the house with you for a few days as it is difficult to get around for the first few days. Best of luck!

  • Thank you so much! My mom is going to practically move in the first week. Again, I really appreciate your response!
  • If you are planning on nursing, or even just for holding baby, a Boppy was really helpful to me in the hospital and once I got home. Kept me relaxed while holding my daughter and while nursing!

Buy the biggest, granny-panty-est underwear you can find - that's the one thing I wish I had on hand.  I thought I could hop back into my low-cut hipsters after my surgery, but they hit right at my incision.  Just get the cheap Hanes or Fruit of the Loom ones, the kind that come in plastic bags.

Oh yes, this totally! Made a world of a difference. Those foldover yoga pants were great too- and dresses. I just thought of this too- wear the binder. It really helps.

You may not get a binder.  I was not given one nor was one suggested to me.
  • If the hospital doesn't provide one.. Do you ladies have a suggestion on one to buy? Thanks for all of your input!

I asked for one, and they gave it to me, no big deal.  At home, I've been wearing Spanx and shaping/compression underwear that I got on the cheap at Marshalls.
  • For a binder I had a Belly Bandit Bamboo and I loved it. Second the tummy aides. I did a citracel/mirolax mixture. Steal the mesh panties they have there plus any and all pads. Bring cute and comfy things. I went to the Gap outlet and got sleep pants and tanks that looked nice. Get a few cute headbands too. I was in no shape to do my hair so I'd pull it back and slap on a cute headband and I looked semi presentable when people came to visit. I wasnt being vain but you feel like a train wreck so at least looking hospital chic made me feel better. Also bring a bathrobe and flip flops or slippers. You want to get up and walk ASAP. It really does make a huge difference. Also get the soft nursing sleep bras or if your bustier the nursing sports bras. Just know its not nearly as bad as you think. You will be in pain after but it gets better each day and before you know it you'll feel back to yourself. Plus the baby makes it totally worth it.
  • Thank you so much ladies! I really appreciate the advice! I will be finishing my shopping today! :D

Definitely the big undies. I actually liked the mesh panties from the hospital because they went up really high. My normal underwear either sit right at my incision or they roll down my belly onto my incision.

Also the hospital sent me home with interdry, which is like a fabric like material to put over my incision to keep it dry. Or like the PP said, pads that stick to the front of your undies.

Also keep up on your pain Meds!

  • Big huge granny panties indeed. If they look like they go high enough, but the next size up and ones that go even higher! I kid you not :)
