Couch to 5k

Has anyone done this program? I am Week 4, day 3, and I am doing better than I thought- and I have always hated running, but now I love it. The 5 minute jogs about kill me, but I am doing it. I like to look ahead at the next week, and the 3rd day of week 5 is jog 20 minutes. Uh, I don't think so. My question is, has anyone repeated weeks until you feel you are ready to move on?

Re: Couch to 5k

  • I repeat run until I can do them well. I've been doing the week of ten minute runs for two weeks now.

  • As PP, you should do what feels right. You say you love runnning, well keep it this way. These plans are just templates use/do what feels right for you and start switching things up once you are ready. GL. I love runnning too.
  • I started this program yesterday, and intend to repeat weeks until I feel confident enough to move onto the next week.

And good for you making it to week 4! That seems super hard to me right now.

  • I did it...i think i started back in February.  Former non-runner that absolutely hated it.  In the beginning, i really wanted to repeat a few weeks, but was encouraged by many to push through and glad I did.  I am now doing the C210K...or was...I am planning to start training for my first half marathon.

This made me smile! I haven't done the program, but I think a lot of "non-runners" ease into running and then catch the running fever in a very similar fashion. I was one of those HS athletes who thought "running the mile" for volleyball was totally unnecessary and ridiculous. When I went to college, I transitioned from rollerblading daily to jogging inside, and it seemed like I blinked and all of a sudden I loved running. My older brother talked me into training for a marathon after I had run a couple half-marathons, and it was that outside encouragement that showed me just how much we can do when we take our time and follow a plan.

I encourage you, OP, to follow the plan as you feel most comfortable, but realize that pushing slightly outside of your comfort zone could have some really positive benefits. I wish you the best of luck and nice work so far!!

  • I just finished day 3 of week 5!  I thought the same thing when I was in week 4 and saw the 20 minute run but seriously it was no problem.  You can handle it!
  • I started it, and was up to week 3 when I found out I was pregnant. I've been feeling to sick to run, but I'm going to start again this week back at week 1 and repeat week 1 until I feel comfortable going to week 2, etc. I was supposed to run a 5K this fall, and I think if I take it easy training I can still do it :)

  • Yes! I'm in week 7 and I repeat days until I can run the whole time if I can't do it at first. Good luck! It's a great program and really helped ease me back into running after not doing it for several years.

  • You can repeat. Also, you can do the 20 minute run. Just slow your pace a bit.
