Can anyone recommend some breakfast ideas to keep my number low? I've tried several things and it's just not working. I thought today would be good. I had a whole wheat english muffin, one egg, one slice of cheese, and a morning star veggie sausage patty on it. I then went for a 15 minute walk right after and my number was still 136 at my hour test time (need to be under 120). Can anyone offer any suggestions? Also, I HATE eggs, so I can't really eat them unless I disguise the flavor with a lot of other stuff.
Re: GD diet - breakfast ideas
Thanks. I've tried that and was high
What about using a low cal wrap instead of the muffin? Maybe that is just to many carbs? Scramble the egg, sprinkle some cheese, and cut up the sausage then wrap it up? You could even use a small amt of salsa?
It could also be the sausage?
my whole wheat English muffins have 28 carbs and I am only allowed 15 for breakfast. So I can only eat half an english muffin with PB. Then I have an egg or cottage cheese and that keeps my numbers down

Hello! This is actually my first time writing here. I've had consistently good results with rye bread (I can even get away with 2 slices). I think it's even better than whole wheat for diabetics. I put peanut butter on top or eat eggs and some feta cheese with it. Tomatoes and cucumbers if you want to add veggies for a more filling breakfast.
I've found this info on the net:
A 1986 study in the "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition" compared the glycemic responses of various grains. Whole-grain rye bread had only 89 percent of the glycemic response of white bread. Whole grain pumpernickel had only 78 percent the response of white bread. Both rye and pumpernickel scored better than even whole-grain wheat bread, which had 96 percent the glycemic response of white bread. The lower glycemic load presented by rye and pumpernickel breads suggests that eating it in the place of white or wheat bread can support a better glucose balance in people with diabetes.Read more: https://www.livestrong.com/article/481560-can-diabetics-eat-rye-bread-pumpernickel-bread/#ixzz2ZuRkwtDt
Never tried pumpernickel bread, though. Don't even know what it tastes like. Rye tastes good to me, esp. when toasted.
I had a protein shake today and my number was only 100!! I was so excited to see that.
