At 39 weeks, my doctor wouldn't let me go any further, so I grumpily headed in for induction. A prostin placed at 10:40pm only gave me contractions - no progress. I started pitocin at 6am and had contractions, but they weren't enough. Finally at level 18 of 20, my nurse and my doula recommended getting an epidural. They said sometimes it's just enough to kick your body forward. I knew I was doomed for a C-Section if I didn't make progress, so I got an epidural. I desired a natural birth, so I cried a lot throughout the induction, as it became clearer it wasn't happening.
After getting the epidural, they backed off the pitocin halfway. After 2 hours, they discovered I was fully dilated! This was after progressing .5-1 cm throughout the almost 24 hours before. I was wheeled into the OR where Baby A came out after not too much pushing (although unfortunately with vacuum and episiotomy because his heart rate was dropping). Baby B did not flip head down from his transverse position, even after attempted external manipulation. My doc reached up in me and grabbed his feet and pulled him out breech! I was so happy I had made sure she was willing to do this early on in the pregnancy, as I really feared the double doozy delivery. I am so happy everything worked out and I think I would have died in that breech section if I didn't have an epidural.
Re: Delivered! Successful breech delivery of B!
Sorry you had to get an epidural that you didn't want. I totally get the disappointment you felt. I cried a lot during my admission process because I was so disappointed to be delivering before 37 weeks (I delivered at 34w2d).
