Time to mutilate the suit??

We need to get rid of Merlin...she won't go to sleep without it but now she busts out of it. She won't start crying when she wakes up in the morning. Mostly she talks to herself in the crib and apparently now wiggles out of the thing. She starts screaming when she ends up on her tummy because she's managed to forget how to roll back over.

Anyway...one night we tried no suit and it was a disaster. She doesn't like being on her tummy but she couldn't seem to stop herself from rolling. I read somewhere that someone cut the suit up. It seems weird but im wondering if anyone else has done this? Like cut the pants part to the knees and the arms to the elbows. Gradually doing this until you can put them down without a suit?

We're going to start with it tomorrow I think. Just thought I'd get some opinions. It's pretty expensive to do this but other things haven't worked.

Re: Time to mutilate the suit??

  • I never used one, or a swaddle or a sleep sac for that matter, so I have no advice on weaning from the suit.

But, I personally wouldn't cut up a perfectly good $40 outfit.  Especially if there's a chance you will want one for a future child.

  • We were in the same boat but have had some success in sleep sacks! We started with two sacks and are now down to one. It was still a little difficult but not as bad as when we tried to cut it cold turkey. It definitely takes time & patience! GL

  • I certainly don't want to cut it up and I also pray I don't have another baby that has the same sleep issues this one has lol

I haven't tried the sleep sack yet because she HATES things on her legs. When we were swaddling her by 2 months she was kicking it off like you wouldn't believe. It was so bad on night that I ripped open one of the swaddleme bottoms do her legs could stick out and she finally fell asleep.

We have a one size fits all sleep sack. I guess we can try that. I've put her in it once before a while ago and she just wouldn't stop kicking at the sack.

  • We are mid Merlin weaning. She does better at night than naps. I have found that putting her in footsie pajamas has helped some. She still needs soothing a few times a night but falls asleep without it now.

  • Brads Girl - hopefully bedtime will be ok tonight. So far she has had 2 20 mins naps in the last 7 /8 hours.......NOT a good thing. She keeps waking up. In the suit we get 45mins to 2 hours depending on a few factors.
