Being on HBR I can hear all the pages that go over the speakers in the hall even with my door closed. I heard a page for the MERT team, which is the medical emergency response team to the floor number that is for high risk L and D. Where I am at. Being that I have hospital and medical experience I knew it wasn't good. I asked one of my friends whose an RN where the page was as turns out it was a women going into labor at full term and the baby had died! Wtf! She said the women just had an ultrasound yesterday and baby was ok and ready to come out. And today that happens. My heart just sank! I wish I could hug that women. I hate being here!!!!
Re: Bad day at hospital
I was in the NICU with my 30-weeker (she was about 4 weeks old at that point), and I got an email that a coworker (at a different building now, but still in the same district) had delivered her baby suddenly at 30 weeks at the same hospital we were at. I thought about going up to her postpartum room (since I'd been there on hospital bed rest for 5+ weeks) and telling her we would be seeing each other often and offer her any support/conversation I could.
Turns out, within 24 hours, her baby girl died of a brain bleed. I was glad I'm not a super-outgoing person who went up to her room to see her during probably the hardest time of her life. I wouldn't have wanted to see anyone else if I lost my little girl (especially not someone who had a baby about the same age), but I realized how lucky and grateful I was to have my little girl as healthy as she is. I was really sad for her family for a long time and just couldn't/can't imagine their grief.
FYI, that coworker, who moved to a new town and started a new job, has a healthy baby girl who's 4-5 months old now. Yay!
I pray for the the women struggling with hurt for one reason or another.
