Found a lump in my breast today :(

So the amazing news is that I am pregnant! My doctor says I am about 4 weeks along! The bad news is I have a lump in my breast and need to now have an ultrasound on it in a few days. It is so hard to get all this news at once :( I am hoping it is nothing more then a cyst. Anyone ever had one before? Has anyone ever gone through this while pregnant? I am in my early 30's.

Re: Found a lump in my breast today :(

  • 1. congratulations on the pregnancy! 2. sorry about the lump. it's very scary. i'm 34 and my dr found one last fall. i had a mammogram and ultrasound and it was found to be benign fatty tissue. i wasn't pregnant at the time, but it was still scary. all i can tell you is to try to focus on the positive (as if you didn't already know that) and remember that most breast lumps found in people our age are benign. it's tough, but you'll get through it. best of luck to you and your baby!

Congrats on the good news, and hopefully the bad news is just a scare.  I've had fibroid cysts for years, but the doctors never referred me for additional testing.  Hopefully they're being overly cautious.  It's probably really hard, but try not to let your mind run away with you until you get test results.  Try to keep your mind off of it, try not to google everything, and try to stay calm for you and your tiny new baby growing inside of you.

Good luck with the US! I hope you have a wonderful soothing tech!

Thank you! I think they are just being cautious too. Luckily I go back in for the ultrasound in 3 days so I don't have to wait too long! Thanks for the kind words :)

I hope I will know immediately after the ultrasound. I can't do the mammogram being pregnant, but someone told me the ultrasound actually shows more of what would be going on in there? I hope so! Thanks for the support!

  • I am ttc 2 and I'm actually going to a breast surgeon tomorrow for a lump my ob found. He felt it and sent me for an u/s. it came back completely clear, not even a cyst. He scheduled a followup to see if it went away with my period. It didn't, so now even though my u/s was clear I have to see a specialist. He said its a precaution. The whole thing is very confusing and stressful. GL and enjoy your pg! It's probably nothing!

  • I found one about a year ago that turned out to be a cyst.  Breast lumps are so scary, but most of them turn out to be benign - I hope that's the case for you!

  • I've had a fibroid before. Hopefully that's all it is! GL!
  • Thanks everyone! I appreciate the feedback and support!
  • This EXACT same thing happened to me.   Actually we found the lump about 3 weeks before finding out I was pregnant, but here I am at 4w2d.  I had a breast ultrasound yesterday, and it turned out to be nothing.  But I was definitely nervous.  Just remember -- you've found the lump, and you're getting it checked out, so you're already taking all the right steps.

  • Congrats on your pregnancy.  Sorry you have to deal with what is hopefully just a scare.
My sister was prone to lumps after being pregnant and they were always benign.  Hope all turns out to be well.  T&P's

    *All are Welcome*

  • I get fibroadenomas in both breasts.  They are basically benign lumps.  I started getting them when I was 18.  I have had one big one removed.  Usually, they just send me in for an ultrasound and biopsy when I find a new one.  They can be sore and somewhat painful sometimes but don't usually bother me too much.

They can grow more during pregnancy due to hormone changes.  My doctor is doing a follow up six month ultrasound on one in my left breast on Friday.

I hope everything goes well for you.  I know it can be really scary when you find a lump in your breast.  Try not to think about what ifs until you have more information.

  • Benign!!! I had my ultrasound, and they said it is only a cyst. I also had a very thorough examination following the ultrasound and they confirmed nothing looks abnormal. They are going to recheck me in 3 months just to be sure, but sounds like everything is fine. PHEW! Now I can be excited about my first ultrasound next week! Can't wait to see my baby!
  • That's wonderful news!
