  • I don't' know, you can kind of see the swaddling cloth under the white thing in this picture, and it matches (this is from yahoo)

EDIT: here are some more pictures form the NY daily news, including the one from OP it looks like: https://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/middleton-parents-visit-royal-baby-article-1.1406715

And this is a UK car seat for reference:

Before I even read the other responses, my initial reaction was that it's a doctored photo. His shirt is completely different.

  • Whether this is fake or not, it's important to know that car seat straps are different in the uk - no chest clip.

  • It's real. I just posted in a group on FB about it. It was included in a long article about them leaving the hospital. I'll see if I can find it again...

I did google UK car seats, and they don't have a chest clip at all, so that's one thing, but the loose straps and blanket? Someone on my FB group pointed out that they're driving slowly in a motorcade and Kate is sitting right next to him, so they're pretty safe, but it still bothers me. :(

  • Ok, I realize it's the daily mail, but if you watch the video on BBC of them getting in the car, it's the same car seat and it's the same A&A blanket that he's swaddled in under the knitted one, and it looks like he's swaddled when William puts him in the car.

    That one's better, thank you!

  • I choose to believe Kate straightened it out before they drove away. She probably was even cradling the seat with a protective, loving arm. NBD.

Okay, that's why the harness looks strange to me.

How does that work? I thought seats were completely ineffective without chest clips.

It's real, but apparently Wiiliam then spent time fixing straps once baby was in the car. I'm guessing they just wanted to get him out of sight and put of the elements. Also, imagine trying to mess with harness straps with cameras rolling and people yelling at you. Nerve wracking. Hopefully they just did that to get the kid on the car and then fixed it before leaving.

IDK, the video shows him putting the seat on the base, him getting in the car and driving away. They put the baby in the seat inside the building so they had time to unswaddle him and put him in the seat away from the cameras. I see my patients try to put swaddled babies in their seats all.the.time and I have to correct them. I think it just irks me more because you'd think they would have a royal car seat installer or something.

  • imagekiraliz2:

The video doesn't show him fixing the straps.

Also, I wouldn't know the proper way to put a baby in a car seat without the chest clips.

The same way, just without a chest clip - unswaddled, straps tight so you can't pinch them, arms out on each side of the restraint.

I'm more weirded out by the intense scrutiny going on in this thread.

I think it's a combo of car seat safety obsession, new adorable famous baby, possible conspiracy theory, and car seats with completely foreign straps.

I can't imagine those three point harnesses are as safe, are they?

Yes! Where is the town crier with this important international information?

  • UK seats don't have chest clips because the straps are wider usually with a grip on the underside. The chest chip here is strictly fir harness positioning.

Well this is probably flameful but they had an almightly escort I believe... all the way back to wherever they were going.nbsp; It's not like they are in high risk of being tboned by an 18 wheeler...The baby is fine.

That is true, but is it setting an example for others who were watching. If that's safe for the royal baby, it must be safe for mine.

Thanks for explaining. I knew they were for positioning and couldn't imagine how the straps stayed in place without the clip.

Do you happen to know which method is safer? I noticed it was three point, not five point.

I don't think the royal family is the benchmark for baby safety. In general, I dont't think any celebrities should be used as an "example".

I don't either, but there are plenty of people who feel they are. Jenny McCarthy is the perfect example.
