Hi everyone... lurker with a question:
My mom passed away about a month ago and I am just finishing up the thank you notes. I received a card from my husband's very Catholic aunt and uncle for a "spiritual enrollment" for my mother through which she will share in daily masses, prayers, etc. I am not extremely religious, so I am not 100% sure what this means. I assume that money was donated to this organization, but I am not exactly certain what this enrollment entails; as such, I'm having a very difficult time wording a thank you for this gesture. Does anyone have any guidance or recommendation on how to word this?
Re: Thank You Wording (NBSR)
Haha no, he was no help at all!
I'm Catholic and if my understanding is correct these "spiritual enrollments" are a donation to an organization (often groups of nuns) and in exchange for the donation your mother was added to a sort of prayer chain (that's the best way I can think of to explain it). Usually they prayer for those enrolled daily and include masses for her, etc.
I would say something along the lines of "Thanks for thinking of my mother and for your generous spiritual enrollment gift. It's comforting to know that others (you can add the group here if you want) will be thinking of her and praying for her and our family in this difficult time." If they came to any services I would thank them for that as well and for being there for you at this difficult time.[or something along those lines]
So sorry for your loss.
A mass enrollment just means that your H's family has arranged for your mom's name to be said at the end of the mass, when the priest specifically prays for people in the community who are ill or who have passed. I am not 100% sure if this is something you pay for; it may vary by parish.
It's ok to just thank them for their thoughtfulness. You don't have to go into specifics.
