Babies: 3 - 6 Months

6 hour flight this Friday

We're flying to Alaska on Friday so our 14 wk old LO can meet his greatgrandma before she passes. This is an important and unavoidable trip, I know, but I'm dreading the 6 hour flight! Any words of wisdom out there? Is there any essentials I should bring on the plane? Thanks!

  • Excellent idea about the extra shirts! Ill suggest that to my husband and MIL too. Hoping for smooth travels and no delays.

  • We are actually flying today on a 5 1/2 hour flight BACK home, so we already survived it LOL. here's where we did...

-Bought pre portioned out powdered formula to make bottles. We would ask them to bring us hot water, and then make half of it with hot, half the bottle with cold bottled and it seemed to be perfect temperature

-I had the window seat so i held her the entire time. If he has his carseat I'd put that by the window-it will just put him to not be so overstimulated

-See if you can board first/before most people board. That's when most babies cry (over stimulating) so you can try and avoid that

-try and keep the naps the same .Not sure how he naps, but for us, we have a magic merlin sleep suit she naps in so I brought it with us. she napped in that, during her normal nap times.

-We brought some of her smaller toys (like those links and a stuffed animal) for her to grab. She was pretty content though to sit on my lap.

-I offered a pacifier on the ascent (naughty mommy...i put sugar water on it so she would DEFINITELY want to suck on it) but she slept through the entire descent and her ears were fine.

It really wasn't bad. I was surprised-she didn't cry during any part of the process, from getting to the airport, going through security, getting on the airplane, the flight ,etc (she was 18.5 weeks).

  • We also brought a 3 full meals and 2 half meals of portioned out formula, 2 extra outfits, her sleep suit, a hat to cover her eyes (to fall asleep), a light weight blanket, 1 diaper per hour we'd be in the air, diaper cream , wipes, and a couple plastic bags for BM diapers. she wore a dress the entire way,
