SO: Must have post: RnP vs Co-sleeper

In my must have post, someone mentioned getting two RnP instead of the co-sleeper. I also noticed most people said that the RnP are must haves.

So, should I register just for two RnP and forget the co-sleeper? I thought that since I'll be having a repeat c-section that the co-sleeper would be helpful since they will be right there. And do they prefer to sleep right next to eachother?

TIA!

  • I don't have any twin specific advice but my daughter slept in the RnP for five months and it was great. It's lightweight and easy to move and store. I will definitely be getting another for the twins.

  • I have a 2 year old and 3 month old twins delivered via csection. They have slept in rock and plays since day one. I would definitely get two. Everyone told me my twins would want to sleep together when they were born. Mine don't really seem to care if they are by each other or not. The sleep next to each other in separate rock and plays.
  • We have two RnPs and we love them. The babies still sleep in them at night and nap in them once in awhile during the day but they are great because they are so lightweight and easy to carry around the house. We don't have a cosleeper.

  • Two rock n plays. No cosleeper. I also had a c/s [the twins did spend 13 days in the NICU, so the worst of the c/s recovery was when they weren't with us]

Definitely two rock n plays. I had a c section too and they worked out great. They are a good height actually. Right at bed level, just like a co sleeper.

Exactly this. Mine spent 9 days in the NICU but from the day they got home it was no problem for me to pick them up in the RNP and carry the whole thing from one room to another.  They were right at bed level so when they woke up we could put a pacifier in or rock them without moving.  The RNPs were my favorite baby item.

  • Thanks ladies! DH will be happy to not have to shell out the money for a co-sleeper. And I believe that RnP may actually last longer for them.

  • Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but has anyone noticed a connection between "flat heads" and RnPs?  I read a couple reviews and the reviewer seemed to blame her child's flat head (that requires the special helmet) on the RnP. Most of the MoMs and STM on my BMB swear by them.

  • 2 RnPs and no co sleeper here too. They're awesome!

If you're worried about a flat head, I highly recommend buying noggin nests (by Boppy, you can find them on Amazon). We didn't use one with our first DS and his head was pretty flat (though I don't personally blame that on the RnP). We used the Noggin Nests for our twins and they've had nice, round heads all along.

  • I was scared of the flat head thing with the RnPs. And I have a 4 year old and 2 year old and was worried they could pull the RnP over or just get at the twins if I was showering or else where. We ended up just setting up one of the cribs in our room. The girls sleep together in there. Not a lot of space in the room now, but I didn't end up buying an expensive co sleeper. And when they girls move to the nursery, we just have to move the crib back. It took me 9 mos to figure that out...I was panicked of what to have them sleep in while they roomed with us.
  • I borrowed a co-sleeper (thankfully I didn't shell out the cash for it) and we used it twice.  The RnPs are the way to go.  In fact, we still use them in the mornings while our 9 month olds drink their morning bottle!  FWIW- neither of my girls have flat heads and they slept in the RnPs exclusively for the first 5 months. :)

  • I guess I will be the voice of dissent here.   We had the large Arms Reach and I really liked having them attached to our bed. I honestly didn't even consider the the RNP's because I wanted them to get used to sleeping flat in a bed and not having difficulty transitioning them to a crib.  They have now been in separate cribs in their nursery since about 8 weeks and both have been STTN since about 3 weeks ago ( they are now 12 weeks old).  Just another perspective.
