Cloth Diapering

F/U church nursery

Based on some of the suggestions I got last week, I dropped off DS in the nursery yetserday with just a small wetbag containing a clean diaper.  He was wearing a bg pocket and the clean diaper was also a bg pocket.  I mentioned to the lady that he wears cloth diapers, but they go on just like a disposable. I figured this was fool proof and would make it very easy.  Wrong again!  When we got home from church, DS shorts were soaked, as was his carseat. Angry When I took off his clothes, I discovered that not only was the diaper super loose (like one snap in when he needs 4!), but it was also BACKWARDS!  How does this happen???  Didn't they see what the diaper looked like when they took it off?  Plus, would you ever put a disposable on this way?  I wish I could have been there to see them do this, because it couldn't have been easy.

My mom keeps saying I should use sposies for church, but I'm just too stubborn. I think I'm done sending diapers at all.  I'll change him right before we go and leave the diaper bag in the car.  If he poops, they'll just have to page me.

Re: F/U church nursery

  • In the case of church nurseries where the staff is typically volunteers who rotate I would probably send a diaper that has Velcro and check Lo when you pick them up. I'm kinda impressed they could get a snap diaper on backwards, lol.

Anyways, we have never had problems with the various church nurseries ds1 and now ds2 have frequented. We leave a Velcro pocket and stuff with hemp or bamboo rather than MF. I wouldn't do disposables just for a church service but that's just me.

That's what I would do. Or check him when you pick him up.

  • FWIW, my DD has come out of the nursery with disposables on backwards.  I don't trust my CDs with my nursery at church, and I don't feel like explaining how they work every week (workers on an 8 week rotation).

  • So far the pp's suggestion seem like they would work for normal people. These Nursery people seem extra ignorant. Who looks at a cd and freaks? They look JUST like disposables. So weird. I could understand if you threw a flat or prefold and cover at them...but, come on! People are so dumb

ETA I'm obviously very frustrated about this too. Lol

  • Maybe you need to take a picture of the diaper on your lo correctly with step by step instructions on the back and then laminate it and put in the wet bag for church and then PRAY.

Or speak to whomever is in charge of the volunteers and request a diaper changing training session with all of the volunteers at one time.

  • I'm actually shocked that the nursery tries to change diapers at all.
  • DH put the diaper on DD2 backwards on his first try. I have no idea how he did it.

I do think you're better off just having them page you like you said. How long are your church services?

LOL! My DH said I should permanent marker "front" and "back." I think I'd still need to pray, haha.

  • I agree with PPs that say send a velcro closure, they might figure that out easier. Though my dad once put a BG aplix on DS backwards - all I could do was laugh. He said he was wondering why it was so difficult!

Our service is about 1 hr 45 minutes.  I would seriously have to leave them with nothing in order to get them to page me.  I've told them on several occassions they could just page me if the diaper seemed tricky.  They never do and they always do it wrong.

To the poster that said their nursery has put on sposies backwards too....why in the world do these people volunteer in the nursery if they don't know how to put on a diaper?!!  Surely one person in the room should have a clue!  Otherwise, they should take their talents to an older children's classroom.

  • Our church nursery rotates workers as well and I am not about to show them every week, how to put on a CD and there are 3 workers each week as well. I tell them that LO is wearing a CD and if it needs changed, to come get me.

I have had one babysitter put  a pocket diaper, with snaps, on backwards. I don't understand why she thought it went on this way either. She said that in the past that she was a nanny for a LO, that was in cloth, so she should understand how a diaper works.
