Tummy sleep

I know you are not supposed to let LO sleep on their tummy until they are strong enough to roll over. But I tried it yesterday for nap time and stayed in his nursery the entire time, he slept for 3 hours!! Anyone else doing some tummy sleep? Pedi said LOs head was strong enough.

Re: Tummy sleep

  • We were doing a daytime tummy naps, not for every nap, in the beginning because she slept a lot longer that way as well. That darn startle reflex can't get them on their tummies! But then our pedi scared me by gently suggesting not to let her her to used to that because of SIDS. But, I think if you're right there the whole time, it's okay. We haven't done it in a while because she's been napping well on her back lately.

  • I do it once in awhile when I'm right there with her.
  • We've been doing naps on his belly since the very beginning. It's the only way he sleeps during the day. I don't let him sleep in his crib that way, so all of his naps are either on a blanket on the living room floor or in the pack and play. He's had amazing head and neck strength since day one, so our pedi is ok with it. I won't say she is thrilled about it, but she's also not telling me not to do it!

  • Mine is pretty much on his tummy all the time now.  He can't roll from B2F, but he can from F2B.  I was very worried when we started, but I have to admit I am used to it now.  I check on him frequently and make sure air flow is good in the room.

  • My pedi encouraged tummy naps during the day as long as I was watching him. He does sleep better and longer that way and it takes the pressure off the back of the head to help it not get so flat from constant back sleeping.

  • DD sleeps on her tummy every time she sleeps. It's the only way she'll stay down for naps and at night. I was scared at first but my SO just put her boppy pillow inside her bassient and she sleeps fine like that. If not she'd want to cosleep which I was fine with but one night SO almost rolled over on her while I was in the bathroom. So she's not allowed to sleep with us anymore.

  • So far she only sleeps on her tummy if it's when I am awake and holding her. She has great strength in her head and neck and she has rolled over already but I don't feel comfortable with it.
