How did your births compare to each other? My first started on its own and lasted 12 hrs. 3 of those pushing but otherwise not too bad. My 2nd started a couple hrs after having my membranes stripped and lasted 3 hrs from first contraction to holding him in my arms. Granted I was 4 cm dialated the month before he was born but I am wondering if I should be preparing for a really, really fast birth with this third one.
Re: Moms of 2 or more
Wow, I am envious! Both of mine were looooong labors but the second was definitely faster. With DD it was 3 days counting painful early labor contractions (like every 10 - 15 minutes for the first 48 hours) and then 27 more hours after my water broke...with a bunch of pitocin at the end. With DS it was less than 24 hours (barely) and didn't need any pit.
If I were you I'd plan on a quick one!
That sounds horrible! With my luck I will plan for a quick labor and end up with your 3 day labor!
I was on bed rest for over four weeks with both. I had a failed induction/c section with DD1 after 14 hrs of labor and not going past 3 cm, which I had been at for weeks. My water broke 10 hrs into the induction, and then nothing.
DD2, I went into labor at the OB's office, checked in L&D at 11 am, and had a VBAC at 6:30 am the next morning. She broke my water at like 6 pm, so I guess I was in full on labor for over 19 hours. My epi failed right before I started pushing. F*cker.
I think they would have gone kind of the same if I had stuck to my guns with a vaginal birth with DD1.
You might sneeze this third kid out. JK. GL!
DS1: water broke at 4am, active labor didn't start til midnight and lasted 8 hours, pushed for 36 mins.
DS2: active labor for 8ish hours, water broke near the end, pushed for 7 mins.

i was 39 weeks with DD1, the whole shebang lasted 10 hours, including two hours of pushing. i was told it would have been a lot faster if she weren't sunny-side up.
after being 3cm dilated for over a month, i was induced for DS at 42 weeks. from start to finish it was 3 hours. he was also sunny-side up.
i was scheduled to be induced for DD2 at 39 weeks due to my history of precipitous birth, but she came on her own at 38 weeks. the labor was over 16 hours long. she was born face down.
Not the same at all.
DD#1 was back labor. Very easy pregnancy and labor started hard and never stopped. Very slow to make any progress. Hard back labor for close to 24 hours. High blood pressure, fever, you name it - I had it. Took me 2 hours to go from 9cm to 10cm and being able to push.
DD#2 was a planned c-sections due to complications with DD (born with a brain injury). Pregnancy was harder with major tailbone pain and I could barely walk. Pre-term labor started at 36 weeks and was put on bed rest until 38 weeks. c-section as planned at 39 weeks. Had 3 weeks of mild contractions and basically no real progress and was in active labor but water never broke (they would have moved the c-section up if water broke or baby was having any distress - did not deliver at 36 weeks as lungs were not developed).
With DS2 I started having contractions at 2 AM which then tapered off at around 5 AM. After a couple of hours of sleep they started again. They picked up in speed and intensity throughout the day and by 2 PM I was in some serious pain. The strange thing was that it was only with every third contraction. By the time we got to the hospital I was 5 cm and felt like someone was shanking me in the cervix with every third contraction. I got the epidural immediately. They used a very small dose of pitocin to try and get the contractions to become regular and steady and broke my water. 3 hours after breaking my water I was ready to deliver. DS2 was beginning to have heart rhythm issues so she told me to push him out quickly and she would use the vacuum to keep him from going back up the birth canal after each push. I only pushed for 9 minutes and he was born.
I think the only way they could have been more different would have been if I'd had a c-section for one of them.
