Psychic Party Appetizer

I am a very rare poster and not known around these parts, but I need HELP.  The group of posters who frequent this board are oh so smart and clever, so I'm hoping I can get some ideas.

I'm going to a psychic party this weekend (all the guests get an hour long tarot reading) and I am stumped at what sort of an app to bring. Google has been no help.

I've been to one before and I brought something boring and traditional...this time it must be more mysterious.  I need something that is exciting and different...and maybe creepy? I don't know.

Thanks in advance for any advice I may get!

  • I'm not gonna lie. This post is sorta weird.

But my sil made a super awesome dip a few weeks ago. It was hummus (maybe a sour cream or cream cheese, I'll have to ask) then tomato, cucumber and feta on top. Served with these AWESOME little cracker pita chips.

    Also, can I come?

    <---- Michigan/Metro Detroit

  • Why? Is it wrong to ask for party food advice on the Parenting board? I guess I'm as confused as the rest of you.  Or maybe I have to be a more regular poster before I ask questions? Or is it that a psychic party is weird? ::sigh::

Apparently I suck at this message board thing.

Okay, WTF, ladies? Now I have to know.  Why is this post weird? Is a psychic party weird? I must know what is so flucking odd about asking for appetizer ideas.

Pinterest was no help, so I'm exploring other idea generating options.  Sorry for the bother.  Just disregard.

And thanks for the idea Chapski...I'm just looking for something different and interesting and having a big old fail.

  • Each guest gets an hour long tarot reading? How long is the damn party?

    image image
  • However long we want it to be.  Is the weird part of this post  that no one has ever heard of a psychic party? That I can understand.  My friends tend to go big on themes, but I know some people are more traditional.

Good god, I should just delete this complete failure of a post.

Could you buy the crescent rolls or a plain sheet of pillsbury dough and shape them like fortune cookies and stuff them? I can't remember exactly what my friend used to stuff crescent rolls but I think it was cream cheese, bacon, and maybe something else? They were really good and it would probably be easy to make a "fortune cookie" shape.

What a great idea!!! Thank you so much.  I am totally doing this.  Perfect.

I've never heard of this sort of party and find it odd you've been to more than one. It always seems really long to me. An hour per person?

I'm confused about what a mysterious appetizer would be. I don't like mysterious food. I want to know what it is.

Are the parties you go to usually only a few hours long? Not everyone gets a reading...only those who want to.  And while one person is getting a reading, the rest are eating and drinking and socializing...and talking about their readings.  It's all in good fun.

Also, obviously I didn't mean I was looking for some sort of mystery meat option. Something unique and creative...no unidentifiable.

The fortune cookie ideas is great, so I'm going with that.  Thanks SunnyDays!

  • 1) get your panties out of a bunch.

    2) Your wording/excitement/nervousness regarding even posting here let alone NEEDING something "mysterious" or maybe a little "creepy" is what's weird.

    3) see #1

Why do you think you need something "creepy"? I don't think psychic's are creepy at all, so I think it's weird that that's the theme you're going with. WTF sorta theme is "psychic" anyway. You're going to a Psychic not to a Halloween party... I feel like you think you need fake spiders in your dip.

No stress dear. I'll keep looking for recipe for you... Chilax and enjoy.

Nonsense!  You post here occasionally, and you can certainly ask questions!

I'm not very good with finding unique stuff, but what about trying something from this site?  It looks like they have some different things on there that might work!

Thank you, BK! You are the sweetest.  I was beginning to think I had broken some sort of unspoken posting law.  I will definitely check out that link! I appreciate it.

  • also, your name looks familiar and I've seen your siggy a bit... So it's weird that you think you couldn't ask this.

ETA: Even if you were a lurker... Please do post... Helps make the bump go round.

Most parties I go to are three to four hours. Like six to around ten, when people start heading home. A BBQ with a pool may be noon to dinner time. I don't know. Six hours seems like the max. It just seems like a long party to be indoors. I'm also really grumpy and know and like you so don't feel picked on. The party is odd to me, not you! Is this an all day thing? How many people are going?

Not wanting to bring a regular old fruit plate to a psychic themed party is odd? And no...I wasn't looking for fake spiders in my dip. I was looking for creative suggestions.

I know no one is required to give them.  I don't think there was an assy tone to my first post (although maybe to my follow ups), so I was surprised that I was tagged as a weirdo.  Whatevs.

    Spam Skull????

Okay, I am kind of boring and always have the same "go to" apps. I usually do buffalo chicken dip, a hot crab dip, stuffed jalape?os wrapped in bacon, or little smokies wrapped in bacon and baked with brown sugar dumped on them. Other options would be the more traditional "party trays" or something sweet. I feel like there are more creative options with desserts.

Ahhh! I think maybe I wouldn't be invited back if I brought that.  :)  But that is still the exact type of suggestion I was looking for - thank you so much!!

Ahhh...that explains the confusion.  We like to party.  Some friends of mine just held a fake  adult prom.  I guess we are a little weird.  :)

I just didn't think you were a "very rare poster".  I feel like you are around often and so then I thought maybe you meant to post this on a board where you were a rare poster.  Anywho, I have actually been to a baby shower where they hired someone to do tarot card readings.  It was fun.  I would just do a "normal" app.

Oh! I am very sorry for my jerky reply and confusion.  I think of myself as an unknown quantity here, so I didn't realize why my post was so odd.  Thank you so much for clearing that up for me!

  • dude. I asked if I could go with you & gave you a good (IMO) suggestion for a dip.

I was referring to your followups when I said panties in a bunch comment not your original post.

  • Apologies all around ladies, and thanks a bunch for the suggestions.

  • Hope you have a super good time and seriously

Google: Greek Hummus Dip and see what you come up with. IT'S SO GOOD. I'm drooling thinking about it. (*there are 100 variations, feel free to add or subtract what you like ie: I don't do onion and sans olives as well...)

  • It sounds good, Chapski!

I never make my own hummus, because, well, I get the very best just down the road.  Not sure where in the Metro D you live, but New Yasmeen Bakery is just out of this world delicious.

I think I'm going to try the fortune cookie crescent roll idea.
