Is it wise to move DD from her cosleeper in our room to her crib while she's in the midst of a sleep regression? She's seven and half months and up until about two weeks ago, she was sleeping a good 10 to 12 hours a night, usually waking only once around 4. I didn't mind nursing her then because she'd sleep a good solid 8 hours beforehand. But now, she's learning to sit up, crawl, plus she's teething, so it's every 3 hours, maybe 4 if I'm lucky. I'm wondering if part of the issue is that I'm right next to her, but I'm a little leery of making the switch while she's in the middle of a regression.
Any thoughts? Should I give it a bit more time? She's been napping in her crib for awhile now, so it's a familiar place to her. The main reason I'm considering is because she seems to be sleeping much lighter than normal, which might be contributing to her frequent wake ups. DH or I repositioning in bed has been enough to wake her a few times now.
I was hoping to keep her in our room as long as I was nursing, about a year, but I don't know she'll last that long in there! Thanks for any advice!
Re: Move to crib during sleep regression
I'd hesitate to move her out of your room if she is waking more often to nurse. Even if you think it's because of other factors, it could be a growth spurt, and it would be more work for you to have to go to her a bunch in another room...not to mention that by the time you get to her, she may be fully awake.
It's entirely up to you and what works for your family, but I think if it were me, I'd wait.
This is my issue. The possibility of it just being a growth spurt is what's making me question whether I should wait longer. I can't tell if the nursing is because she's hungry or if she just needs the comfort. Plus, she rarely wets her diaper while she's sleeping (which I guess is good?), so if she wakes up even a little for more than a minute or two, she'll go from settling herself back down to freaking out because her diaper is suddenly full to the brim. A couple of times I've been able to change her diaper, turn on her little projector, and have her fall back asleep. But usually, the diaper change wakes her enough that she wants to nurse, and at that point I don't know if it's hunger or just wanting the contact.
It might be both. Their tummies are so tiny, and it is so comforting to be near mommy who is so warm and smells like love.
If she's just nursing for comfort, it probably won't take long and you can put her back to bed fairly quickly.
