1st Trimester

Excited, but silent

My husband and I are waiting until after our first ultrasound (on Aug 12th!) to tell anyone that we're having a baby, and I'm dying here.  I want to tell everyone, and I have almost slipped a few times, but we're still quiet.  So I just wanted to share our amazing news on here: we're having our first baby in March!

I've heard that apples give you an energy boost.  Can anyone confirm or refute that?  Between working in a school all day, coaching, and growing a human, all without naps, I foresee some more exhaustion in the new few weeks until my body adjusts.

Ack!  DH seems very animate about us not telling a sole (probably because our last ended in a M/C).  I am having a birthday celebration dinner at a well known "margarita" restaurant that I have been raving about for months with my best friend..I told him I will have to tell them but he says NO!  She's my BBF...she's going to know....don't really know how to keep that one at bay.  I am also going to Jamaica with a girlfriend in two weeks and I feel like I'm going to have to tell her too because we are spending 5 days at an all-inclusive...he says nope to that too!  He clearly doesn't get how hard it is going to be!!

I guess I should add that I'm intending to stay silent until the end of the 1st trimester....but I am feeling a lot of pressure with figuring out how to hide it from these situations!!!

    As for the apple...not sure!?!

  • I'm right there with you. Me not drinking at my in-laws anniversary party at a casino raised a lot of questions, so did not drinking at a wine bar. I've been working out a lot for the past six months, so I went with the excuse of not wanting to ruin all of my hard work with empty calories. I doubt it will work for long, but it's fine for this week. Good luck and have fun on your trip!
  • My DH and I are Doing the same thing! Our appointment is August 15 and I'm dying to tell my friends! Congrats!
  • First off, congrats! I'm in a similar situation... Had a MC back on 4/2/13... It was a rough time for both of us, as well as our families - I was hesitant the first time to share the news with too many people because "they" always say to wait until after the first trimester. Unfortunately, my MC occurred at 11 weeks. Just yesterday, I discovered that we're pregnant again, praying for a healthy pregnancy! I will keep you in my thoughts as well. But yes, it's going to be near impossible to keep this from people, but it's hard for either of us to get too excited, given our struggles earlier this year. I'm supposed to go wine tasting with a couple of my closest girlfriends so I may have to spill the beans then. Fortunately, my husband isn't against me sharing the news BUT I've made it very clear that the "list" remain short throughout the first trimester this time! Wishing you a happy and PERFECT pregnancy!

  • Not Drinking can be a tricky situation.....I am trying to stay away from all the people that know if I am not drinking I must be pregnant.

At a restaurant, you can excuse yourself from the table to go to the restroom and either find the waiter/waitress or the manager and tell them about your situation and ask them to bring you the virgin version of your favorite drink!

At parties, you can always carry around a drink and slip into the bathroom every now and then and pour some out into the sink and then rejoin the party.

  • We are in the same boat! But he wants to wait until his Grandmothers Birthday parrty (September 21!!!!) to announce to family. I have to tell someone!!! We are also due in March. We have a 10 year old and a 3 year old, so we have sworn them to secrecy. Congrats to you!
  • I was going to say, I am very lucky that most of our friends have quit drinking recently, for health and calorie reasons, and my 2 best friends are new mommies (who I had to tell immediately, lol) so it won't be a big deal for me to pass on a drink, I can just say "no empty calories for me, thanks" lol. Also, if you are really concerned, you can get there before others, and order a Cranberry and water, or a "virgin" drink, and they won't know the difference :)
