DS has acid reflux. We elevate his head while he eats and for 20-30 after. We put a few thin towels under his bassinet mattress or have him sit in his bouncy seat. Hope this helps!
I battled reflux for.ever (seemingly) with DD1. They're both still on Zantac (were put on right around their due date). It took a probably a week before we were able to see an improvement -- and it just got better and better after that. So much so that I was convinced they didn't need the meds -- and then tried to take them off -- and it was an epic disaster.
We kept the girls upright after feedings (bouncy seat, swing, etc) -- which seemed to help them. But, DD1 was always super uncomfortable -- she would just writhe as we held her -- almost all the time. Broke my heart. She's definitely a smiley spitter, now.
TTC Since 11/10 due to Unexplained IF
4 Rounds of Clomid, 2 Rounds of Femara + IUI, 2 rounds of IUI+ Injectables (Bravelle + Menopur) = First BFP! TWIN GIRLS!
November 2, 2012 - Claire (2lbs 8.9oz) and Paige (2lbs 10oz) arrive at 29w3d due to PTL and pPROM at 28w5d
We keep control of Anna's reflux by burping often and holding her upright after meals. Incline isn't enough, she has to be completely upright or on her tummy on our chest or she will spit up. She also sleeps in the rock n play. Hers is mild though and so far hasn't required medication.
Both of my twins had reflux. They had to be on both zantac and prevacid. We also saw a pedi GI because our regular dr wasn't comfortable prescribing the amount of meds they needed. DD was off meds @ 13.5 mo and DS was off meds @ 15.5 mo. I hope you both get some relief soon!
Our little guy was on Zantac for about a month or so, and we saw only a minor improvement. When we went in a couple weeks ago for our two month check up, the doctor prescribed Prevacid instead, and so far I think that is working better. He no longer has an issue halfway through eating where he acts like he is in pain, which was still happening when he was on Zantac. The doc said sometimes one medicine works better than the other, and sometimes a combination is required to get relief. We do prop him up while he eats and hold him for awhile afterwards to help out. If he seems to be having a bit of reflux it helps to put him in his Rock and Play rocker for a bit after eating - he can sleep better in that since it isn't flat. So far at night he doesn't seem to have much of a problem laying flat. Hope your little one has some improvement soon!
We thought DD had reflux for nine months. Tried both Zantac and Prevacid with minimal change. From months 3-9, Julia had a horrible aversion to the bottle (would only eat when asleep),but otherwise a very happy baby.
We tried lots of things to help her bottle aversion, including visits with Pedi and weekly SLP visits from Early Intervention.
In April, Pedi finally gave us a referral to a Pedi GI,who did an endoscopy to rule out Eosinophilic Esophagitis. That was ruled out and he decided to treat her as MSPI (usually MSPI babies are colicky all the time, so no one thought she had it). I stopped pumping and Julia started Alimentum formula. The vomiting stopped almost immediately and her bottle aversion started to go away. It's about 90% gone now. She is a whole new baby when it comes to feeding.
DD#1, Alexa, Born 8/08; TTC # 2 since 3/2010; 8 IUI BFN; 1 cervical pregnancy in April 2011; IVF #1 Dec 2011 worked. EDD = 9/7/12. Bedrest starting 6/4/12. Julia Mae born 7/1/12, home 8/12/12.
Rock n play was the best thing we ever received!! I don't know what we would have done without. She is 7 months and still sleeps in it (still have reflux, but not as bad as it used to be).
