Closed vagina

Dd is 16 months and since she was born the dr mentions she has a "closed vagina" meaning the entrance to her vagina is closed. She has had two UTI s in the last 6 months which he said can is one of the things that happens with girls who have closed vaginas. He did say once they hit puberty and start producing estrogen that it will open up on its own but because she has had the uti's he prescribed her te estrogen cream to apply and within a Week or so it should open. This is new to me I've never heard of it before. Has anyone else dealt with this

Yes as a labial adhesion. We discovered it as we took her in for unexplained fevers that would not go away.  We used the estrogen cream for close to 2 months and have had some success with it opening. She still has a slight adhesion.  If you get prescribed antibiotics to treat the UTI you might find that she is more likely to get a yeast infection on top of it. My advice is to keep her diaper as dry as possible. We check every hour.  Also we are avoiding the pool at this time.  It sucks, but it is curable.

I've heard that having your LO eat yogurt while taking an antibiotic helps fight against them getting a yeast infection. My SIL has to little girls that alway would get yeast infections on antibiotics and that worked for her.

  • I had it myself. Got the cream treatment in like 2nd grade. It went away permanently.

  • My daughter had it too, but when she was about 6 months old.  we spent $150 (after insurance) on cream we never had to use.  We put her in the bath one night, let her soak for 20 mins, and then went to put the cream on.  Just the action of going to put the cream on and opening things up was enough to break the skin and open it back up.  Worth a try?
