I know some people do them at the same time and some tackle each separately. We decided to work on the bedtime sleep training first and then tackle the naps. We plan to start the nap training next week and I am trying to research as much as I can about it.
If you did the nap training AFTER the bedtime training, would you please share your experience? I expect it to be harder and take longer based on what I have read, but what else should expect.
Also, I've read some people start the nap training with the first 2 naps of the day and continue with the "old" way for the 3rd nap so that the baby is not very overtired going for the night sleep. But others say you should be consistent for all 3 naps. I am conflicted on what to do.
Re: Nap training after Night time sleep training
We did sleep traning first and then nap training. DS was having MAJOR nap regression at that time - needed bouncing/rocking for up to 45 minutes, then would only nap for 20 minutes (if placed in his crib). But if he was napping on me or in the carseat, he could nap for 2 hours.
I ended up doing 1 nap a day with the training, because he would cry for 10-15 minutes, fall asleep, then wake up exactly 20 minutes later. I couldn't bring myself to hearing him cry all day long, PLUS he really needed some rest, so for the other naps during the day, I'd either hold him or take him out for a ride.
Gradually, he started extending his nap to 30 minutes, then to 45 minutes, then to over an hour! I think I added the 2nd nap for nap training after about a week?
