I'm 16 weeks pregnant with a baby boy (our second). Just learned at the anatomy ultrasound that I've got a large subserosal fibroid - i.e. on the outside of the uterus. I think I may have had some pain from it a week or so ago, but otherwise it seems to be asymptomatic. Uncertain prognosis for fetal growth, premature labor, or delivery complications. I may need a C section, but MFM doesn't want to see me again until 28 weeks. The baby looks healthy so far. Anybody in the same boat?
Re: Uterine fibroid
Been there. I had a massive fibroid during my first prenancy. The pain struck around week 12 and by week 22 I was sentenced to bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy (I was a bit of a freakshow, it was the biggest my specialist had seen, so hopefully yours will not have that outcome). The bedrest and the pain were the worst part. They did monitor me very closely throughout my pregnancy. There were no worries until the last month where they were starting to worry about the fibroid and the baby competing for the blood supply. Thankfully my daughter continued to grow right on schedule. I delivered via C-section (she was breech to boot) at 39 weeks. My daughter was completely healthy!
I had surgery to remove the fibroid 3 months later. My daughter turns 1 next week and I am 6 weeks pregnant with baby #2. They do not expect me to have the same complications.
Good luck! I hope you have a happy, healthy pregnancy!
Thanks for your reply and your good wishes. Do you mind my asking how big your fibroid was and if it was subserosal? (Mine is 12 cm. Hard to believe...).
not to sound rude or anything, but I'm so glad yours was that big. Mine is 19cmx16cmx2cm. and I kept reading that these women had a "large one" but theirs are like 8cm. I've been so depressed about how it's going to go. I'm only 9 and a half weeks, but I feel like I'm already running out of room. My OB said I'll most likely have to have a C-section just because of the size and placement. It doesn't look like it's attached to my uterus, but it goes from my upper abdomen to my lower abdomen. Any advice for the discomfort? No real pain as of yet, just little sparks then they're gone.
Thanks in advance!
Hah! No offense taken. I would have felt a lot better if I had known someone with a fibroid the size of mine. I just wasn't on TB yet. I found that the more I moved, the more that I hurt. At 22 weeks I just wasn't able to make it to work any more (thankfully my employer was very supportive). I also was huge. I was the size of a woman carrying twins, with one baby to show for it. I outgrew most of my maternity clothes. My acid reflux was horrible since my fibroid basically pushed my stomach up into my esophagus. I highly recommend a wedge pillow so you can sleep with your upper half slightly elevated. I promise it is all worth it once the little one comes.
My doctor prescribed percoset for me during the last half of my pregnancy. He assured me it was safe in the amounts I was taking it. I tried to take it as little as possible, but sometimes it really was necessary.
