Babies: 9 - 12 Months

6 Months and off the charts

We took ds in for his 6 month check up.  DS's weight is off the charts 22 lbs, and his height is in the 75th percentile 27 3/4".  DS was born 1 month early and was in the 5th percentile accross the board at his 1 month check up, it's amazing how much a baby can grow in 5 months.  I can not get over this is the child I had to take in each week for weight checks his first month.

Re: 6 Months and off the charts

  • Hehe, can you believe your baby is only 5 lbs less than my 3 year old?? She's off the chart too, just the opposite end.

  • I'm actually starting to get a little worried, due to he is a big kid.  My mom is getting worried that if he keeps growing at the same rate that she will not be able to pick him up by his 1st birthday.

Our friend has a little girl that is a dwarf and he already outweight her and is taller than she is, so I guess I am very fortunate.

  • Yay for big babies! Hes such a cutie!

DS was 21 lbs and 30 inches at his 6 month checkup. I weighed him the other day and hes now at 24 lbs and 31 inches...Surprise If he keeps growing at this rate im gonna have a 30 pound 1 year old...lol

Ds wears me out just holding him through out the day...Stick out tongue

  • I'm in the same boat. We haven't had her 6 mo. checkup yet, but at 4 mo. she weighed 20.6, and my arms can definetly feel her weight gain. Wink I have a feeling she's up to 22 now. I also worry about not being able to really hold my one year old one day. I hope her weight levels off.

Don't worry about this.  Once he starts getting more mobile, his weight gain will slow significantly.

  • DD was a super chunky little monkey at around 6 and 7mths, too.  Once they become mobile, they'll all thin out.  Her weight gain slowed down when she started to crawl, and the month that she started pulling herself up to standing she actually lost weight.  Now she's back to the 50th percentile for weight, and I really miss all the rolls on her legs!

  • DS has always been in the 95th - 97th percentile for weight and over 20% off the charts for height. At his 7mo appointment he was 22 lb but at his 8.5mo he was only 22lb 10oz, he's been crawling and now walking so the weight gain really really slowed down. Don't worry pretty soon you may have a long and lanky string bean on your hands.
  • I wouldn't be worried at all. My DS was 21 lbs and 27.75 inches at his 6 month appt. and my pedi said he's way too young to predict how big he will end up being. Enjoy the chub while it's here!
  • Your little guy is off the charts cute!  I laugh every time I see him in his Santa suit.

I have a chunky monkey, too.  She's been in the 97% since about six months.  Everyone says she'll thin out when she starts walking.  After all, it's not like they got chubby by eating pizza and ice cream.
