Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Spinach

Anyone introduce Spinach? What age? I read somewhere not to start until 10-12 months, but I feel like alot of the pouches have spinach as an ingredient. Any reason to wait?

DS is 6.5 month old and has been on solids since 5 months.

  • The only thing we are holding back on is honey, nuts, and whole milk. But still give food with whole milk as an ingredient. We do BLW.

DS has also had spinach in some of the mixed veggie purees. No problems, and it's a good source of iron.

  • I think they just suggest to serve it fresh because of nitrates. Perhaps some people wait because it may cause gas or isn't as easily digested as others. I think it's fine to serve though.

  • LO had steamed spinach with us a couple weeks ago.

He wasn't as excited about it as most other foods, but he ate it.

  • Never heard of this one.  My boys has had everything under the sun save for honey, milk and nuts.

  • My pedi said it's fine but if you steam it, don't use the same water to puree it with because of the high level of nitrates.
