Title: How much water are you offering?
Kate is beginning to have zero interest in formula. I offer her four 6 oz bottles or sippy cups throughout the day and if she eventually eats 4 of those oz it's a success. I'm worried about dehydration, especially in this heat. She gets 2 oz of prune juice mixed with water daily due to constipation from the soy formula, and I also always have a sippy cup with a few oz of water available to her all day, which she drinks from periodically. When I called the doctor to inquire, they told me to keep offering her formula instead of water, as she should be drinking 20- 24 oz daily. There's no way she will drink this much, but she does eat a well balanced diet of solids, so I'm not so concerned about nutrients as I am about dehydration. I give her watery foods, like watermelon, but how much water are you giving your child daily?
Re: How much water are you offering?
I'm having the same issue. Or at least I am on the weekends. I think he MAYBE got 14 oz of formula yesterday. He will not willing just pick up a sippy of anything that isn't formula and drink it. Even juice. Warm, cold..nothing. And won't drink much, if anything even if I hand it to him or hold it for him. I'm also worried about dehydration.
He drinks his formula much better at daycare so that's a plus. But I'm concerned about when he moves to the next room because they're not going to pay as much attention to how much fluid he gets or hold it for him.
I also gave a lot of watermelon yesterday. Luckily he loves it. I was trying to eat it myself and he stood in front of me yelling until I gave him some and yelling for more. When I put it in his mouth he'd say "mmmmm" and close his eyes. LOL
She is/was seriously lactose intolerant, so my doctor wants me to wait until our 12 month check up to discuss what type of milk to transition to (WCM, lactose free WCM, almond milk, etc.) We are slowly introducing dairy in baked items and it's going well, so hopefully she will be able to tolerate WCM, or at least the lactose free version, soon. She will be a year old in 2 weeks.
DS has about 24oz of formula/day and he always has a sippy of water available. He also likes to drink out of my water bottle too. I would guess that he has 8-16oz of water a day? He drinks almost a full sippy of water during dinner - about half a sippy during breakfast and lunch.
Just keep offering it and watching her wet diapers. Have you tried formula in a sippy instead of a bottle? What about trying WCM mixed with formula?
cedenton - so cute about the watermelon!!

She won't drink it out of the sippy cup-she just hates formula now. I am hesitant to try any WCM until I talk to her doctor, due to lactose intolerance, but I may try almond milk until then.
I tried to replace a nursing with WCM, but again, he takes maybe an oz or 2 and an hour later he wants to nurse. Lol.
That is so frustrating!
Give the almond milk a try and just keep pushing the watermelon.
Hopefully, it's just a short phase. Have you tried a different kind of cup? A straw cup? Or just a regular cup and tilting it for her? DS thinks he's a big shot when we do that.

What is even more frustrating is that she will drink juice or water out of a sippy cup, just not formula. She does love drinking out of a regular cup, though, so good idea. At least it would be a few more sips of formula than she is getting now.

I wouldn't personally worry about dehydration as long as your LO is having normal wet diapers. If you are consistently offering liquid your LO will drink if he is thirsty.
