Breakfast

I'm sure this has been asked before but I don't have much time anymore to get on. Sorry for a repeat! What do you girls feed your LO's for breakfast. I feel like we are stuck in a rut. DD has suddenly gotten picky on me. She will eat any fruit so most morning are some kind of fruit and a whole wheat waffle or toast spread with a veggie puree that's the only way I can get her to eat veggies at the moment. I have a recipe for pancakes using Greek yogurt that she likes so I'll make them once a week. She's not a huge fan of being fed things anymore either. She like to pick it up and eat it herself. I never thought about how challenging just feeding her would be. Thanks!

Re: Breakfast

  • We are in a rut too. DS refuses to even try eggs so most mornings it's a banana, yogurt, or toast with a pure on it. His favorite thing is bananas so I have to put prunes on them because it constipated him. I did get him to eat a pancake yesterday after a struggle. He realized it was good eventually though!

  • We usually have a handful of Cheerios with either a banana or yogurt. Occasionally we will do pancakes or eggs, but during the week it's Cheerios and fruit of some sort.

  • Whole grain waffles, pancakes, TJ's cereal bars, fruit, yogurt....

We have tried eggs too. As soon as I set it on her tray she looks at me like I'm crazy for trying to feed her something like that.
  • Eggs, oatmeal, cereal, fruit, yogurt, waffles.

  • We do fruit, pancake/waffle/toast, and yogurt or applesauce in a pouch.

I guess this is a rut, but I also like mornings being easy and predictable.  Especially once school starts again: DH gives her breakfast while I finish getting ready and load up the car.  He is usually doing dishes at that time.  So, easy = good.

  • I did just come up with some options, though!  Here they are:

Make a big quiche or frittata on the weekend to eat all week.

Baked oatmeal casserole.  The one I make could be eaten as finger food.  You can find lots of recipes online.

Some kind of egg-sausage breakfast casserole?

Muffins!  You can find lots of recipes for thing like zucchini, carrot, or pumpkin muffins.  A good way to include veggies in the AM!

Baked French toast.  Also a good make-on-Sunday, eat-all-week meal.

    Turkey sausage patties for protein.

Make a yummy fruit smoothie that LO can drink through a straw.

    Bagel with hummus for dipping.

Oatmeal with stirred-in fruit pur?e.  Quinoa and millet are also good at breakfast with something sweet mixed in!

  • Waffles, yogurt, Cheerios, oatmeal.  Fruit, fruit and more fruit.  He would live off of blueberries, strawberries and bananas if I let him, and it has gotten to the point I have to offer the fruit last or he won't eat anything else.

  • Pancakes, bagels, french toast, grits, eggs, yogurts,.fruit, muffins, quiche, sausage, biscuits, cereal.....no pickiness over here

  • We kind of have a rotation going...

Plums and bananas, cinnamon oatmeal with chicken sausage or peach soy yogurt. I am excited to try eggs, pancakes, muffins and waffles soon. :)

I love the oatmeal casserole and muffin ideas!!! Great way to get veggies in the muffins. THANKS!!

  • A sprinkle of cheese goes a long way! If I give LO a plain egg, he will eat 1-2 bites before he throws it - but with a sprinkle of cheese he will eat the whole egg quickly :)  we try to do an egg most mornings, with cheerios and fruit - or we will do almond or peanut butter on whole wheat toast or tortillas.
