Baby Showers

Two punches at a shower?

I have a quick question. I agreed to make a few things for SILs shower, which is next weekend. However she requested an alcoholic punch and a non-alcoholic punch. She said she saw it at a shower in the past and thought that was a good idea. Her friends all really like to drink, and they agreed this would be a good idea, but then began telling me I had to go out and get a very specific raspberry vodka to make it pink and flavorful (never mind the fruit punch and other pink elements).

My question is, have you seen this at a shower before, and if so did a lot of people drink it? Can I just get any vodka and throw it in there or do you think the raspberry would be best? I guess my concern is that I do not want to make a huge bowl of punch only to have to throw out expensive alcohol because three people wanted it.

Re: Two punches at a shower?

  • If you want to make "the same" punch I wouldn't mess with the recipe. If you want to make a different punch - go for it.

  • I think two punches sound fine.

Just bring enough to make two or three batches and make smaller batches. That way you only have to throw out the rest of whatever batch isn't used.

  • I'm not a huge drinker, but I think you could get regular vodka. That said, there is a definite difference between super cheap and even mid priced vodka. For mixed drinks, I never use expensive liquor, but usually don't go super cheap either.

  • PS If you want to try something a little different, you could always do pink sangria with wine instead. https://m.allrecipes.com/recipe/142518/prettyinpinksangria

Edit: Sorry, on mobile. There are dashes between pretty in pink sangria that were edited out.

  • I would not buy expensive vodka for a punch! Make the punch but use cheaper vodka!

  • Okay thanks everyone. I wasn't sure if this is a popular idea at showers. I think I may make the alcoholic one half the size of the regular punch. I do plan to make the same recipe, except just add some sort of alcohol, but her friends requested it be a very specific thing (what is Verity anyway? Does anyone know?). Maybe I will just put a cheap vodka in there...

  • Raspberry vodka definitely tastes different than regular vodka, and using plain vodka will probably mess with the taste. That said, there are many raspberry vodkas, some cheaper than others. With flavored vodka, the price/quality doesn't matter as much as with regular spirits, so go with the Smirnoff raspberry and have a good time!
