Trying to Get Pregnant

Soft Cup?

Has anyone tried using a 'Soft Cup' while TTC? I stumbled upon an article about it and it seems to have a lot of "success stories". Supposedly the manufacturer has even filed for FDA approval to market it as a fertility aid so there must be something to it?

Q's for anyone who's used it:

1- How do you use it? Do you just stick it in after intercourse and leave it in all night?

2- Has it ever gotten 'stuck'? I read it doesn't have a string or anything... makes me a little nervous.

3- Is it inserted like a tampon? I read you insert it "back" instead of "up"? I'm confused... do you sit while inserting it?

4- Has it worked?

Thanks :)

I haven't, and I don't think I would for TTC purposes. But I am thinking about trying that in place of tampons for my period, so I'm interested in what other ladies have to say about it.

I couldn't tell you about TTC, but I use it for AF and I seriously love it. Prepare for itemized reasons why:

    - It is soooo easy.

    - It's cheap ($40 every couple years? Hell, yeah!).

    - There's no waste (except for replacing it -- again, every couple years).

    - It is unbelievably comfortable.

    - You don't have to awkwardly try and hide a tampon in your hand on your way to the bathroom.

    - You never have to worry about leaving home without adequate "supplies".

    - It is honestly very clean. I know some women get the skeevies from sticking their hand up there, but I have found it is even less of a mess than replacing a pad or tampon.

Obviously, I am a big fan -- if anyone has any questions, shoot!

ETA: I am referring to the DivaCup, not SoftCup. I'm fairly sure they are the same thing though.

ETA #2: Googled it. They are definitely the same thing.

  • Too bad it's not Friday, this would be a good confession for me.

I tried them maybe a year and a half ago, we had been TTC for about 6 months and I thought WTH I'll give them a shot.

    1. I left mine in overnight.

    2. No.  The ring is flexible, you just hook it with your finger and you can pull it right out.

    3. Not really.  It has a flexible ring that hold it in place.  To insert, you pinch the ring and slide it back towards your cervix.  Once in place, the ring holds it in place.

    4. It didn't for me.  I only used it for one or two cycles and decided it was a waste of time and money.  There really isn't a need to hold the sperm in, it falls along the lines of propping your hips up.

ETA:  I've thought about trying them for my period, but haven't got around to it yet.

I don't think the soft cup is meant for that - are you thinking of the diva or moon cup?  I use a diva cup and love it.

Soft cup - no plans to try.

Soft cups are disposable version of the diva cup.

I have not used it for TTC, but I did try the Soft Cup for my period when it first came out. It was terrible for me, and leaked like crazy, but it's probably because I have a retroverted uterus. Don't worry about losing it, that's not possible. The vaginal canal is not that deep.

For your period, I recommend getting a menstrual cup instead. They work a hell of a lot better, and are reusable. (I'm not sure if they changed it, but Soft Cups were NOT reusable when they first came out.) I highly recommend the Diva Cup (https://divacup.com/). After using the Diva Cup for the better part of ten years, I actually think pads and tampons are so gross now. The menstrual cup seems a lot cleaner, and you get used to not being icked out by menstrual fluids.

ETA: Sorry, I was late to the party.

  • I also use menstrual cups, for over 10 years now. I don't have much to add from what others have already said, just that one of the best parts is being able to leave them in overnight.

ETA:  I should add this as well:  I acutally did use it after sex one time when we were TTC#2.  I also did get pregnant that time, I doubt the cup had anything to do with it though. We weren't having trouble conceiving, it was actually our first cycle for #2. I don't remember why I did it, I guess I figured it wouldn't hurt! I don't think I'd do it again, just because I don't think it would really do anything.

  • From a ttc point of view, it is used a lot for alternative ttc methods, such as same-sex couples. My DW and I have not tried this method yet, but this is the method we plan on using. You might want to check with the lgbt board and get some more tips.

  • I use a Diva Cup for AF. I honestly don't see the point in doing it as a conception aid.

2- No, it does have a small stem at the end that you use to pull it out. I haven't ever gotten it stuck. I have wedged it firmly in place, and have had to tug a little harder to get it out, but that's it.

3- For the most part, yes. It is hard to explain, but yes, it goes more "back" than up. I do not sit while inserting it, no.

    4- absolutely.

I'll never go back to pads or tampons if I can help it. It is much cleaner than either option. It took a few cycles to get used to it for sure, but once you get the hang of it, it's great!

  • All it would do it catch all the reject sperm.  All the good ones are already on their way to the Fallopian tubes.  Unless you like to hold the losers near your cervix...

  • Back when I first started lurking there was a semi regular poster on here that tried it and it got kind of stuck. It sort of vacuum sealed and she thought she was going to have to go to the doctor, her husband ended up helping her get it out. I don't remember if she got KU or not. Can't remember the used name but her siggy was a wedding picture and she had a Princess Kate style gown with tge lace sleeves and it was a pic of her husband dipping her. If she's still here, sorry, I just remember that sig.

Exactly.  Which is why, even though I did try it, I wouldn't do it again. In retrospect, I think it was kind of a silly thing to do!

  • I love the diva cup for af. I have super heavy flow and it is more reliable for me than tampons. I tried the soft cup a while back since I needed a new diva cup and thought I'd try them since they're disposable and I didn't like them as well and I had some leaking problems so I just packed them away.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I did stick one in after sex the other night since I already have them. I guess I like losers hanging out by my cervix (explains my exhusband I guess!)

  • Hi!

I actually just read the very same thing yesterday! Hubby & I have been TTC for over 9 months now with no luck so I'm desperate and decided to try the Soft Cups trick! I also read using only Pre-Seed lube or no lube at all can help with this as well. I plan on trying it soon since I OV in about two weeks. My best friend just found out she's pregnant and they were trying for about 5 months. I asked her for any advice and she said "DON'T USE LUBE or use pre-seed!" They were using KY lube for 4 months straight and then the month they conceived they used none and boom she got pregnant! I'm really really hoping this works for me too because I had no idea lube affected conception and have been using the entire 9 months we have been TTC. I've been so worried that something is wrong with me or hubby but I have a feeling that the constant use of lube could be causing some delay. I have a doc appointment in two weeks for some blood tests but in the mean time, we've decided to try Soft Cups & Pre-Seed. I purchased both at Walgreens and I too read hundreds (no joke!) success stories with these products! There is also a YouTube Video on how it is to be used and simple tips. Very helpful!

Baby dust for us both! :)

With regards to the vacuum/suction thing, it's because you need to put a finger in and put pressure on one side to break the seal, not just yank it. Easy as pie.

  • In regards to ttc, I have no thoughts or opinions to add that PP haven't already said. I probably wouldn't, but we're only on cycle 1. That might change after a few months of BFN tests.

But for AF I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Lunette cup! It's a bit of a learning curve, and can be a bit messy at first, but it's amazing. You can go longer than you can with pads/tampons without having to dump it out, since it suctions to your vaginal walls you don't have to worry about leaks, and the fact that it's reusable and I don't have to keep going to the store for tampons at $6.00 a box, it's seriously awesome. I highly recommend it!
