TTC after 35

Advantage of tracking BBT during DPO?

This is the first month I am tracking my BBT and was pleasantly happy this morning after FF officially told me I was 3 DPO.  I am wondering now the advantages/disadvantages of continuing to track for the remainder of my cycle though.  I find the 2WW hard enough and my worry is that I will become crazy, overanalyzing every temp reading.

Any advice from those who have been doing it for awhile appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Advantage of tracking BBT during DPO?

  • I am sorry to say that the whole process of TTC can make you crazy.....I know what you mean about wanting to stay as relaxed as you can during this process, but the importance of taking your BBT after O measures your luteal phase, which is important to know.  Having the phase less than 10 days can be an issue with your progesterone/hormones, hence getting pregnant and staying.... I would talk to your doctor or google it to get some more information and understanding on it.  In addition, you want to know your body's temp averages in the dpo versus before.

I hope that this helps and you will be able to relax, as much as possible.

    Best of luck!

  • The advantage is that sometimes if your temperature stays up that can indicate pregnancy only sometimes though! however in my case when I was charting and on progesterone it artificially raised my temps giving me false hope.
Me:39 Dx LPD, Fibroid, AMA and all that goes with that. H:37 Dx low motility and low morphology. TTC since 3/12. Clomid 8/12 and 9/12: BFN. 11/12 on a break for Myomectomy sched. 11/26. Resume TTC early 2013.
  • I hate poas and seeing a BFN, so I continue to temp because if I see it drops, I don't bother testing. Also it helps me keep the habit of testing. Otherwise I'm sure I'd forget while waiting to O.

To build off of this--and I should also clarify that I used a passive temperature monitor (Duofertility)--from what Duofertility told me, if you have unstable temperatures during the luteal phase, it may indicate a problem with progesterone levels not being sustained. (However, despite there being some questionableness about mine, blood work came back normal.)

I don't know if taking your own temperatures negates the ability of observing these sorts of nuances or not; I hated manually temping so I never made it a full cycle doing so, and therefore, can't compare the differences, at least personally.

  • I slack off during AF and the week after but when I O I also O late so I have a little leeway so I am a slacker :) But like the other ladies said, knowing how your temps are during your luteal phase can have overall importance in your repro health and if your temps remain consistantly high for 18 days according to TCOYF you are pregnant.

SO I would recommend it, also it gives FF more info to help guide you based on past experiences, although every cycle can be a little different.

all the reasons pp posters have said.... it can still tell you a lot about your cycle.  I would at least do it for three months to see how your charts look in comparison with one another.
