Continue potty training or back to diapers!?

Everything tells me to continue on and not to go back to the diapers. My son was 2 back in November and has shown interest on and off. I decided to go ahead and start potty training since the timing seemed right. Yesterday was day one and aside from a couple of accidents, he did great! Today was a m unexpectedly busy day at the house and despite all of it he's done fairly well. This afternoon, however, he awoke from a nap upset and asking for diapers. Every part of me is telling me to venture on and not give up on all the efforts thus far. But I feel badly seeing him upset over it. Any advice?

If you are going to potty train, you have to give it a couple of weeks to truly set the routine.

Don't quit after only two days unless you can't make the commitment.

I realize the processs is going to take awhile. My first never cried asking for his diapers back so, I'm feeling bad and wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue. Perhaps I didn't make myself clear I am committed to this and don't want to quit just hate seeing him visibly upset asking for his diapers back.

My DD asked or should i say cry and begged after 3 or 4 days. They weren't horrible days, but they also weren't great. I looked at it as a sign she wasn't really ready. I was trying to PT on my time not really thinking about her. I still talk up PT and undies, but no longer force anything.

I would never put a 2.5 year old back in diapers. You have to take the lead on this and keep going. He doesn't understand the end goal but you do.

I'd be honest with him, but firm if this is your decision. My personal experience is that you might consider shying away from "big boy" language - maybe he doesn't want to be a big boy yet, and that's ok. But "we don't have any more diapers and we won't be buying them from the store any more because you don't need them" or something else that's honest, but gentle. (We had it easier - we cloth diapered, and I told her that we wouldn't have any day time diapers available for over a week because they needed a deep clean. She could go down to the laundry room to see they were in a very slow (lazy

) cleaning process and that they couldn't be used.)

Thanks for the advice ladies! Initially I had put him in a diaper for the overnight and I think for him that was a bad decision. Having to give it up again in the morning was overly upsetting. Last night I changed gears and went with "nighttime underwear" aka a pull up and so far things have gone so much smoother this morning. We are definitely staying on this road and I appreciate all of your thoughts!

When we were beginning PT, I let her choose diapers or underwear (reminding her she needed to keep them dry). He has to be 100% on board for PT to work. Hopefully it is just a short setback.

Keep going! It's super stressful for any kiddo training. This is the first time you are giving them a real expectation to change a major behavior.

My kiddo was so sad the first several days and stressed out. I do still diaper him for bedtime, but not naps. He's waking up dry a lot, but not always. Especially in the first several days, it was like a break for him. He was actively holding it in and not going potty that I was a little freaked out. But we seem to have gotten over the hump. It's much better two weeks later into the process. Once he's more confident and asking more often to pee rather than relying on a timer, then we'll take away the nighttime diaper.

He may need to poop and feel more comfortable doing it in the diaper. My son did this a few times and then started using the little potty.

Maybe go out and have him pick out his own underwear? DS is always excited to put on his underwear especially since he got to pick out the design. Every once in a while he will ask for a diaper, but I tell him for now that he only wears them when he goes "nite-nite" and that big boys wear underwear when they wake up. That seems to do the trick.
