Sushi

We are going out to dinner tonight with friends and Im really wanting some sushi.  I know not all sushi is actually raw so wondering if the spicy crab roll would be ok? What do you think?

Re: Sushi

  • If the crab is cooked go for it. Shellfish is fine as long as it is cooked.

  • I always get the Shaggy Dog. It is cooked crab and delicious. Very jealous!

    Shaggy dog is indeed awesome.

OP I've heard mixed reviews... 1 I've heard cooked is fine as long as you don't have it all the time. 2 I've heard since cooked is made on the same table as raw, stay away. 3 I've heard "eat as much as you want, pregnant women in Japan do it and they're unaffected."

I've had it once in pregnancy and have been craving it again. Personally I say go for it! It's delicious, healthy and satisfying.

  • I ate the Philly roll, which has smoked salmon in it, all the time with DS1. I've prob had it at least six times this pregnancy. I'm all for eating sushi!

  • Current research states that in the u.s.,raw sushi doesn't have to be avoided when from a reputable place. The only concern typically is mercury levels, which is a concern regardless ofbeing cooked.

I had sushi last night that had crab and shrimp tempura in it. It's a personal choice for me to stay away from the raw stuff. It was delicious!

If you make sure the place is clean, you can have raw. If you don't feel comfortable then don't order.
  • Ive eaten raw sushi while pregnant, just have been sure to get it at a place that is clean and reputable. In Japan they recommend eating the raw sushi with wasabi while pregnant since the.wasabi contains some kind of microbial compound that kills bacteria in raw sushi.

Wow, this is interesting information. Thank you for pointing this out!

     Keywords: reputable place.

Which really goes for anywhere you eat out.

I've been avoiding anything raw just as an extra precaution. I have eaten cooked sushi, but I ask the chef to use a clean knife rather than the same one he's using for my husband's mouth-wateringly delicious surf 'n turf roll.
