Birthday party at a park food ideas...

Morning! I'm planning DD's 3rd Bday party at a local park. I've rented the gazebo - which is big enough for about 50 ppl even though we are only expecting around 30. That sits next to a playground that we go to a lot. It's going to be from 10-12 in mid October. I am thinking about having some fruit bowls, doughnut holes, bagels & maybe some sausage balls set out at 10 when ppl arrive, then at the end having cupcakes instead of a big cake. Does this sound like enough? Any other 'brunch food' ideas that are easy? TIA :))

  • Love the sausage balls! Is there electricity? If so, you could do crock-pot oatmeal. If not, I wouldn't sweat it. Sounds good to me.

  • My sister has done a few park parties for her son's bday.  They always order the super cheap pizza. :)

That would be a weird breakfast.

  • Maybe set up a bagel bar with a couple of different types of bagels and different flavors of cream cheese. Maybe coffee for the adults? Starbucks has those jugs of coffee to go. Little orange juices and Capri suns maybe. But everything you mentioned sounds just as good.

LOL, I missed the breaskfast part! although 10-12 is not breakfast in my world! We eat lunch at 10:45 daily, so 45 min of playing/games/gifts/etc and then pizza...

  • Yes, definitely getting the big coffee for the adults! :) I had pizza in mind when I was thinking of 11-1p, although DD & I both could have pizza for breakfast easy.

  • We're doing a camping themed party at 10 am, and I'm planning on bear claws, pretzels and cheese slices, trail mix, and fruit, with mini cupcakes toward the end of the party.

  • Playing devil's advocate...  Wouldn't everyone have already eaten breakfast?  I say wait to put food out until the end and put lunch type picnic food out.

  • I'd do the bagels for sure- mini if possibleand maybe mini muffins... I'd honestly replace the donut holes with the muffins, but that's because I would not want my child to eat donuts at 10 and a cupcake at 11:30- but muffins aren't exactly healthy, so I guess it's not a big deal...

A friend did a breakfast party and had the mini bagels pre-spread with butter or cc, which made it a lot quicker for people to get their food.

  • Agree that's too late for breakfast, my DD eats 8:30-9, i wouldn't make her wait.

  • Thanks for the replies! My thinking was since it was 10-12 that I wouldn't have to do a 'meal' per say, but definitely wanted to have some stuff there for ppl to munch on. :)
