Making your own food

For those that mix the food with BM, how do you store it? Can you store it in the fridge or does it need to be frozen?

What about thawing it?

  • Freeze it in ice cube trays then when you need some take out how many cubes you need, usually one to two.

this is me. For some reason I can't remember what I did for Ds's food. I must've used water instead of BM to water it down... I'm not sure what to do now that it's BM.

are you talking about mixing BM into pur?es? I have Only heard of using it to make cereal. But if you wanted to mix it into a pur?e, I would still follow the normal breast milk storage rules. In the fridge for up to five days, or in the freezer for 3 to 6 months. Milk with veggies sounds kind of weird to me though.

To be fair, water and veggies sounds pretty gross too. But BM is an obvious choice for more nutrients vs water.

The avocado and BM pur?e looked kind of like cream soup to me.

    Eta- thanks for your reply!!

  • I freeze it BRU has awesome containers, all different brands They thaw really fast too
  • I just read about this today. I got the book The Wholesome Baby Food Guide and it is awesome. It said as far as making purees, you can either make the puree with just the vegetable or fruit and freeze it like that and thin it after you thaw it out, or you can thin it out with breast milk or formula before you freeze it. If you do it with breast milk or formula, you would just follow normal freezer storage guidelines. It said in the book frozen purees are best used within a month of freezing because of nutrient depletion. It did say though that you could store the frozen purees for three to six months. There was also a section about thawing. It said you can put the desired amount in the fridge from the freezer and it would need about 12 hours to thaw out in an airtight container. You can also thaw it in a glass bowl in the microwave, but you would need to nuke it in short intervals to prevent hot spots. You can also heat it in a pan on the stove. I personally haven't tried any thawing methods yet because I just froze my first batch of foods today.
