How long after a walk should my dog still be panting?? Shes a little overweight. Im trying to start getting some more exercise with her but after we walk it seems like she pants forever and then Im afraid to take her again for a while. Im worried Im overworking her. I just don't know how to tell how much she needs/can handle.....we walked about 1.2 mi this morning. It was a little warm but not crazy 80 degrees with a little breeze. I didn't break that much of a sweat.
Re: NBR: Dog panting
Is your dog big? Lots of fur? Austin's 50 lbs and has a short coat, but it's a double coat.
They make collars/vests for dogs that you put in the freezer or stuff with ice cubes to help them stay cool on walks - that might help.
Someone shared this on my facebook feed yesterday, I thought you might find it helpful!
Maybe do a shorter distancd and pay attention to when she starts getting tired??
shes kinda big. Shes a pitt, overweight though so about 68 lbs right now. Short hair but black
no but I think I need to try this
Thank you. She is just starting out. I will cut back. I figured if this ready to pop momma can do it and not be sweating that much that she would be fine...but I don't think thats the case
edit: it was only maybe a 20 min walk
This is my dog! Mine is a very overweight pit, same size and short black and brindle fur.
I swear she pants for an hour sometimes. She's a little over dramatic IMO. she's also almost 10. I just keep the water flowing and let her rest. She doesn't enjoy walks much but I keep trying to get her out at least weekly.
aw she sounds cute! and 10 years old wow! mine is only 4 or 5. Shes down a lot of weight though, she stayed with my IL for a while. She was a perfect 55 lbs when we dropped her off, and when we were able to take her back a year later she was 75 lbs!!!
No prob! It's definitely a helpful tool, especially with folks who don't know your dog as intimately as you do!
