Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Baby Cold

So thinking my 4 month old DS has a cold and its just awful. He woke up 2 hours after going to bed last night just screaming and it took us 40 minutes to get him calmed down enough to take some Tylenol and get back to sleep.

He's coughing and I know I have a sore throat so I'm thinking he does too, is there anything else I should be doing for him besides Tylenol and constantly sucking out his nose?

And what medicine can I talk even though I EP? Feeling crappy and taking care of LO is no fun!

Re: Baby Cold

  • Run a humidifier in his room while he sleeps. Also, elevating the crib mattress so that DS was sleeping at an incline helped us...we just put a fairly flat pillow under one side of the mattress. It helped a lot with the congestion, but he did kind of slide down it throughout the night. It didn't wake him up though, so it was fine.

  • Ditto pp on the humidifier and inclined mattress. Also use saline drops in his nose and try to occasionally sit with him in a steamy room (like run your shower on the hottest setting and then when the bathroom is all steamed up, sit in there with him for a bit).
  • We ran a humidifier in DS1's room for months. It was all that helped. My sister said to let him sleep in the swing or car seat for the elevation. We just used a pillow under his mattress like pp said.

If you want to avoid medication for you, you can use honey for your throat. Babies can't have it til 1 yr though.
  • We both has a cold a few weeks ago and I asked the pharmacist to look up if it would be safe to take DayQuil and he said yes. I took it for about 34 days and my supply was fine and it didn't seem to affect the baby. Hope you guys feel better!
