Genetic Testing

Did you/would you do it? We opted not to mostly, or totally I guess, because of price. Because I guess if it was free or nominal we would have. We don't really have anything in our families that was concerning though. I hope we made the right decision.
Me:39 Dx LPD, Fibroid, AMA and all that goes with that. H:37 Dx low motility and low morphology. TTC since 3/12. Clomid 8/12 and 9/12: BFN. 11/12 on a break for Myomectomy sched. 11/26. Resume TTC early 2013.

    My RE did the Good Start panel which does basic screening for free.  Meaning that if your insurance doesn't cover it he will pay for it.  He paid for mine- my insurance has no fertility benefits. https://www.goodstartgenetics.com/

    I probably would have still paid for it to have peace of mind and I like to leave no stone unturned, but I don't think it is necessary.

    Me:36 DH:38 TTC#1 since 4/2012
    Me DX: Hashimotos,Hypothyroid, DOR, MTHFR,  DH: normal

     IUI #1-#4 BFNs and a few cancelled cycles in the mix.
    - poor responder
    ***Suprise BFP on 6/13/13. Natural MC @6wks 3days
    IVF#1 and 2- Cancelled due to no response on max stimms
    FET 5/20- BFP
    1st Beta- 641
    2nd beta- 2166
    Sono- TWINS!!!!
    Two Boys! Born January 2015 @36 weeks.  Healthy and no NICU!  So blessed!

    When I first went to RE he had DH and I do blood tests for some genetic stuff....no idea what never asked. All came back fine, I would do the Harmony test or equivalent, if KU, it would be extreme measures for me to do amnio....but that's just me.

    Me: 41 DH: 46. We are TTC our 1st, started July '11,
    3 cycles clomid with Ob,
    1 cycle Tamoxifen with Ob,
    Diagnosed PCOS 11/5/12
    clomid, trigger & timed bd 12/12 BFN
    1st clomid IUI 1/4/13 BFN.
    2nd clomid IUI 2/13 cancelled didn't respond to clomid.
    3/15/13 scheduled laparoscopy & on bcp.

    May 10 IUI from injectibles - BFN 

    May 22 done with interventions it will either happen or it won't. 

    February 2014 No longer actively trying, but not preventing. 

    SURPISE BFP 4/2/2015!!!!!!!!!!

    Miscarriage 4/23/15

    I'm wondering if we should do it. My OB/GYN suggested it at my last visit when I mentioned we were trying to conceive. We have pretty good insurance, but she said that the practice had "worked it out" with the testing company that the most the couple would pay is $99. I guess they test me and if anything pops up, they test my husband.

    My husband doesn't think we need it. I really am not sure about it, since I don't think it would stop us from trying to have children. There is nothing that serious that runs in our families that we're aware of.

    Yes we were going to before we had our MC. Hubby has a nephew that is downs and I am 39 and hubby is 41 so next time I still plan on doing the genetic testing.

    such as sickle cell, cystic fibrosis, whatever

    there isnt a "catch all: test. See a genetic counselor and discuss your risks. based on your and family history.nationality

    You're correct with the CF testing but, both parents have to be carriers so, that's not an issue unless both are.

    I had CVS testing with both my singleton and my twin pregnancies.  It is very safe with singletons and can give you a huge peace of mind.  The one question my OB wanted to know prior to testing is, if I were to get a positive with the test, what would I do with that information?

    Since then, I have realized that there is peace of mind in knowing either way.  All of my children were genetically perfect but, I have heard of women who found that their child had downs and they used that information to prepare themselves.

    CVS testing is very safe now for singleton pregnancies.  It will either give you peace of mind, allow you time to make other decisions or allow you to time to educate yourself and prepare mentally to have a baby with downs.....

    I would hope this testing isn't taboo as it once was....
