Do you have a minimum age for a babysitter to watch your LO, and not at night while LO is sleeping? We've only used a babysitter (other than immediate family) a few times, and they've all been teachers at my kids' daycare, so they are all at least in college. Would you feel comfortable letting a 16 year old babysit your LO at this age during the day?
My kids daycare is closed for a week in August. My parents have agreed to take my DS for the week (he's older and honestly, just more fun to do things with), but it's too much for them to take both of the kids for that long. We're looking for someone to watch DD during the week, since we don't want to take that week off from work. A friend of a friend recommended a girl in the neighborhood who is 16. When I was 16 I thought I was old enough to do anything, but 16 year olds seem so young to me now. What do you think?
Re: Babysitter age ?
Our neighbor watches Caroline sometimes (like she will be Sunday afternoon/evening) and she is 15 almost 16. She has been watching SD for the last 3 years and she loves Caroline. We have also had the DC director's daughter watch her and she is 15. Both of them live close and either we were pretty close or their mom's were home in case something happened. I started babysitting at 12 while the parents were away for a short time and 14 for extended periods of time.
PS, last time neighbor watch Caroline they took her swimming, gave her a bath and put her to bed. Again the mom was home and they were swimming at their house but Jordyn did it all on her own.
