Success after IF

Of course something has to come up ...

After a supposedly 'perfect' anatomy scan last week I was just told at an appointment during a routine doppler check that my baby has an arrhythmia (it would beat strong the skip a beat and go back to beating strong) and I have to go in for a fetal echo on Monday. Anyone ever go through this? I'm freaking out and so upset about this.

Re: Of course something has to come up ...

  • I'm so sorry!  My Mother has an arythmia she takes meds for, but I don't know anything about this in a fetus.  I hope everything turns out okay. Big hugs!

Maybe the high risk pregnancy board might have someone with experience???

  • Sorry I don't have any advice, but I hope everything is okay.

I hope you are staying cool and try to take it easy until your appointment.

I'm reading a cool book right now that you might like, "Mama Zen, walking the crooked path to motherhood". It's good to read when I'm feeling anxious.

  • Try not to freak out Saraevh, like Iback, my mother has had an arrhythmia her whole life & is not medicated for it.  I am sorry you have this added stress but hopefully the fetal echo on Monday will give you some peace of mind.

  • My son's problem was noticed at birth.  He had an echo before we left the hospital.  They found a valve between chambers that was open (and shouldn't have been) and another valve that was not working correctly (would open, stick there for a second, then flutter closed).  At the time, they said to wait a couple weeks and see if everything corrected on it's own.  Around 6 wks, we went to a Cardiologist for another echo.  The open valve was now closed, but the other valve issue was still there, just not as prominent.  We were told he has an "abnormal" valve.  Apparently many people live with these their entire lives without even knowing it's a problem.

If I were you, I'd try not to worry.  Wait until the test results are back and even then, know that it could improve on it's own.

  • I hope everything turns out ok. It could have just been an issue of the Doppler not picking everything up right. Hopefully it's just a false alarm!

Heartrate always seemed good on u/s, so they never really checked. They did echo on day 3, so i assume he had it in utero and they didnt notice. Easy to do with 3 babies crammed in there, i guess.

Sorry this is something more for you to worry about, but honestly I think it will all be fine.  What you are describing sounds to me like premature atrial contactions or premature ventricular contractions and in utero they are benign.  Caused by immaturity in the conduction system of the heart, and they resolve on their own.  Rarely they can be associated with with some sort of cardiac anomaly, so that is probably the reason for the fetal echo.  They thought they heard one on my DD, as well, but she is fine :)

Good luck with the echo, and I hope you can relax a bit after that.  With the normal anatomy scan, I would be surprised if the echo is abnormal!

I hope it this is the case for my babe as well.  I'm praying we get to the scan today and everything is just fine.  I'm so nervous.  The doc said their biggest concern is if the beats get too fast or too slow.  I guess we'll see what the MFM says after today.
