Cloth Diapering

Help...confused about registering

Hi everyone,

I am sure you heard this question about a MILLION times so I apologize in advance.

I'm a FTM wanting to do cloth diapering and I just don't know where to start. I read/watched reviews after reviews but it just gets me more and more confused and stressed. We are registering on Amazon and I know we need to register for a variety of sizes/brands but I just don't know how much of each. Does anyone know any easy websites or hints on how to start a first stash?

Thanks

  • I honestly don't know the "best" way, but here is what I've done (I'm a first time mom, due in September).  I read all the CD-101 pages and blog post type things until I was blue in the face and started to understand all the acronyms and such that people use.  I started to form an idea in my head of what "style" of diapering I want to try (prefolds and covers with some pockets and AIOs thrown in for when others have to change the kid).  Then, I started looking for forum posts and blog posts about people's recommended brands to try for those styles, both for newborn and bigger babies.  Then I googled those specific brands and read up on all of the ones that sounded interesting and narrowed it down to a handful that I really like.  I found some killer sales along the way and have bought a few.  Other than that, I've compiled a list of specific brands/styles/prints I'd like, and added it to a registry at myregistry.com.  I have only registered for one or two of each type (sometimes one aplix, one snap, or just 2 prints that I really couldn't resist...).  I've arranged it so I will have "enough" diapers once everything is said and done.  Then, as I start using them regularly and I get a feel for what I like and don't like, I can start selling off the ones that don't work and buying more of the ones that do.  It is a slow process but I'd rather not commit to one style or brand right this second when I've never tried any of them.

I haven't run into any websites that mention the best way to start a stash or decide on how many of each brand to try (believe me, I've looked all over), but I've found a bunch of blogs that offer real moms' comprehensive reviews of about a million different styles and brands that they tried and why they do or don't like them.  This one https://dailymothering.com/the-best-newborn-cloth-diapers-an-extensive-review-comparison/ is a good one to start with, just 'cause she seems to be a tad OCD about reviewing all these and she gives real reasons why they worked and didn't work. Good luck!

  • I did the diaper trial from Jillian's Drawers. I really recommend doing a trial. I found it very helpful. There are a bunch of stores that offer them I chose Jillian's Drawers bc she gives you all but 10 back in cash no store credit and understands that some staining can happen.
