Hey Ladies:
I was informed today at my 28 weeks u/s that my baby has a small fetal stomach relative to the rest of its body. There were no other issues, but they told me they need me to come back in two weeks to monitor for possible intrauterine growth restriction. Have any of you had any experience with this? Feeling highly stressed out after losing our last baby to triploidy at only 14 weeks and hoping for some positives here...
Re: Small fetal stomach for gestational age
Our son's limbs were measuring behind (at 20 week sono ) and we were diagnosed with IUGR and then hit with preeclampsia (at around 30 weeks).
He was born at 34 weeks weighing 3.9 pounds and 15" long, by 3rd birthday he was at 50th percentile for height and weight.

Did they see any issues with blood flow through your placenta?
No issues with blood flow so far, so we just come in for another scan in two weeks. I'm trying to stay calm, think good thoughts, and make sure I take in plenty of protein and nutrients.
Thank you so much for responding and I'm glad to hear your son is doing well!

I'm assuming you mean abdomen (asymmetrical IUGR) vs. stomach? My baby was diagnosed with IUGR at a growth scan at 38 weeks (my fundal height measured small starting at 35 weeks). Placental blood flow was fine. They scheduled regular NSTs and growth scans, and told me they wouldn't let me progress past 39 weeks.
What they told me was that abdominal IUGR usually was an indication that for some reason the baby wasn't receiving all of the nutrients needed - the reason for the asymmetrical growth was that the body prioritizes growth of the skeletal structure and brain, and abdomen takes the back seat (it's less important). They ended up inducing at 38 weeks 3 days because of a heart rate dip during our NST - I had a healthy, 5 and a half pound little girl. Today, she's an 18 pound 10 month old. Nothing conclusive ever came back on the pathology from the placenta.
Good luck!
