We started with the sleep sheep and I DON'T recommend it for home use. It turns off after 45min and when your LO wakes from that particular sleep cycle they have trouble falling back to sleep quickly because it's too quiet. I ended up buying a Homedics one from Target that is continuous OR you can time it. Since then E has seamlessly fallen into her subsequent sleep cycles (baby sleep cycles are only 45-50 minutes long).
DD has been using the sleep sheep for almost 2 years and loves it. There are 4 settings - rain, whales, ocean and mothers heart beat. We only use rain and ocean. To me the whales are annoying and the mothers heart beat sounds like gun shots! But the other two settings work great! Like pp said it turns off after 23 or 45 min. She has not had a problem waking after that period of time.
With DS we are using the giraffe version. I think its the "travel" version, but its almost as big as the original so I'm not sure what is "travel" about it. I actually like these sounds better, overall, than the sheep one. The settings are something like - play, clam, relax and sleep.

I'm having trouble finding a sound machine with good reviews... do you love yours? If so, please rec. Thanks!
There's an app called Sleep Bug that has worked perfectly for us between our phones, my iPad and an old iPod we have something handy with noise on it all times.
I liked the sleep sheep while it lasted, but it broke within the first 2 months. I got the munchkin brand machine and love it. It has a variety of sounds and projects pictures on the wall or ceiling.
We bought the dohm sound machine. You can get it online or bed bath beyond. It's awesome. It plugs into the wall and you can put it in the corner of the bedroom. The noise is loud enough to soothe and also block out unwanted sounds. You turn the dohm to adjust the tone and volume. I highly recommend it!
The Sleep Sheep is wonderful! There is a travel sized one also that you can strap to the car seat. DD loves the heart beat sound on the standard size one. Highly recommend.
This. We have both of them. I set the standard one to 23min and after it shuts off my LO will stay asleep until he's ready to eat.
I have the sounds for silence machine and loved it so much I bought another one to put in her room. It is more convenient than pulling up a phone app and only 20 bucks on amazon.
We have the Homedics one. We got it at Bed Bath and Beyond with a coupon. I like that it doesn't shut off because I actually bought it for myself to drown out my husband sawing logs It has several different noise options but I like just the white noise best.

We love this one. Both kids have one and DH and I have one for us!

I have the munchkin sound system too and it's worked great for our 6 week old and our 2 year old.

We used the Homedics Sound Spa with DD1 and she still loves it at 5 years old, so we went out and bought another one for DD2. It's great, it's 20- 25 bucks and it's sold at Bed Bath and Beyond, Buy Buy Baby and Target and a few other places. It has a three different white noise sounds, (we like the rain sound the best) and it also plays three different lullabies and can also (separate feature from the sound) project pictures on the ceiling or wall with one of 3 different discs. DD really loved the pictures from age 2-4. It can go continuously all night long or it has a timer for 15,30,45 or 60 minutes. I love this thing!
We were just gifted with the Graco one. It's pretty neat, has a blue nightlight and you can plug up your MP3 player, along with all the white noise and lullaby sounds. Prior to that, we just used an app on my phone, which worked perfectly and still does when we travel elsewhere.
We have a humidifier for DS1 that is fairly loud and works really well as white noise. We also use the homedics sound spa lullaby from bed bath and beyond which we love!
